Calvin Knowles

July 30, 1935 ~ July 5, 2016 (age 80) 80 Years Old

 

Mr. Calvin Knowles, 80, of Emerson, GA passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 1:00pm at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, Emerson, GA. Interment will follow in Bartow Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 7:00 – 8:00pm at the Mack Eppinger Funeral Home.

Calvin was born on July 30, 1935 in Bartow County to the late Harold Knowles and Hattie Lewis. HE was the first of twelve children born to this union. He was educated in the Bartow County School System.

At an early age he joined Damascus Baptist Church, which was the family’s home church. Later in life he moved his membership to Greater New Life Christian Center UCOGIC, under the leadership of his Pastor and friend Bishop John Blunt.

On September 17, 1956 he married the “apple of his eye”, Helen Jean Johnson and to this union, nine children were born.

After thirty years of service, Calvin retired as a Diesel Mechanic with Paga Mine. Calvin had a passion for cars, cooking, hanging with the “Corner Boys”, and eating at the 4-Way Café with his friends and co-workers. Some of his greatest memories were vacationing in Myrtle Beach, Family Dinners, and Men’s Breakfast with the Deacons of the church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a beloved wife of 59 years, Helen Jean (Johnson) Knowles; children, James Calvin (Pam) Knowles, Charles Lamar (Johnnie Mae) Knowles, Dennis Wayne (Jerri) Knowles, Harold Bernard (Angelia) Knowles, Cheryl Renee’ (Carlton) Scott, Tracey (Eddie) Knowles Mitchell, Derrick Eugene (Lectrice) Knowles, Erica Denise Knowles, Derrick Jerome (Shanita) Knowles, his sons at length, Sherman Darby and Kevin Knowles; brother, James (Annie Ruth) Whitfield; sisters, Christine Weems, Sara Louise (Joe) Harden, Minnie Laura (Joe) Freeman; brother-in-law, Charles Johnson; sister-in-law, Florene (Hubert) Darby; twenty-two grandchildren; one great-great; aunt, Louise Knowles; nephews, Kevin Knowles and Hunter Tyler; niece Herberlene Tyler, and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
