HAYWOOD ELLIS, JR

Mr. Haywood Ellis, Jr., 85, of Emerson, GA. passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00am at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, 174 Gaston Westbrook Avenue, Emerson, GA. 30137. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00am until the hour of service. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.

Haywood Ellis, Jr. was born to the late Haywood Ellis, Sr. and Mamie Shambly Ellis on July 31, 1931. He was educated in the Bartow County School System and later served in the United States Army, being Honorably Discharged after serving a three year tour in Korea.

Haywood was employed by Crest Auto Parts for thirty-five years. He was fondly known as “Chop” and “Woody” and he called all his kids “Peanut”.

Haywood was a member of Damascus Baptist church and he delighted in performing various duties in and around the church.

He leaves to cherish his memories: four sons, Rev. Martin Perkinson (Diane), Edward Ellis, Keith Ellis and Deacon Lamont Ellis; five daughters, Pamela Ellis, Tina Williams (Rob), Karen Ellis-Olotu (Peter), Amanda Ellis (Robbie) and Lynette Fowler (Pastor Roy E. Fowler); Betty Ellis, the mother of eight of his children; two sisters, Annie Ruth Whitfield (James) and Ruby Webb (Terry); fifteen grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
