Mrs. Jo Ann (Davis) Griffin

Mrs. Jo Ann Davis Griffin, 71, of Acworth, Georgia passed on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends.

Service for Mrs. Griffin will be Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1 Mt. Olive Street, Cartersville, Georgia.  She will lie in-state from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery immediately after the service.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Jo Ann Davis Griffin was born on December 11, 1944 to the late Joe C. and Lois Davis of Cartersville, Georgia.  She was 1 of 10 children of this blessed union. On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Jo Ann was called from her earthly home to her eternal home.

She married the love of her life, Walter E. Griffin, Sr., on September 10, 1962.  Through their love, they had 4 children:  Walter, Joanne, Cheryl, and Darryl.  With more love to give, they adopted Teresa and Lisa into the family.  Looking back on their 50th Anniversary, Walter stood up during church service and spoke of the love he had for our mother and then serenaded her with a song.  It was truly a blessing to witness.

Jo Ann worked in the laundry room at Kennestone Hospital for over 30 years until she retired.  She later went back to work at Maple Ridge Nursing Home for a few years and retired once again. 

She was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.  She served as an Usher and worked on the Kitchen Committee.  Everyone had a great love for her collard greens.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her adopted daughter, Teresa Griffin and siblings, Victoria Williams and Robert Lee Davis. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Walter E. Griffin, Sr.; children, Walter E. Griffin Jr., Joanne Griffin, Cheryl Thompson, Darryl Griffin (Tonya), and Lisa Griffin; 12 grandchildren, LaCresha Griffin, KaTisha Rogers, Ramone Griffin, Tanecia Thompson, Chantelle Griffin, Chayna Thompson, Trey Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Lindsey Griffin, Jamal Owens, Kira Rogers, and A’Lisa Griffin; 6 great-grandchildren, Quasean Griffin, MarKeisha Daniel, Ly’Asia , Jazmine Morrow, Jace Morrow and Desmond Hopkins; siblings, Thelma Gay, Juanita Philpot, George Davis, Annie Davis, Mary Lou Davis, Marvin Davis, Charlie Davis (Pat), and Priscilla Davis (Sister-in-Law), and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, loved ones, and friends.
