Mrs. Leatha Mae Jones, 94, formerly of Cartersville, Ga. passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke A.M.E. Church , 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia.
On the evening of Thursday, April 5, 2018, Mrs. Leatha M. Jones was called home to be with God surrounded by her family and friends at Pine Knoll Nursing Home in Carrollton, Georgia. Leatha’s sunrise was December 22, 1923, to the late Emma (Carson) Jones and George Jones.
Leatha Mae Jones was a woman of strong faith in her Christian beliefs that were nurtured and developed at St. Luke African-American Methodist Episcopal Church when her family moved from the Mission. Her kind heart, soothing voice, selflessness and unconditional love was well known in her community. By trade, Leatha was a hairdresser for many years. Later, in Cartersville, Georgia, she became a LPN working at Springdale Nursing Home. The caring nature in which Mrs. Jones approached all things made her a favorite amongst the residents.
Leatha was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Willie Frank Jones; her sons, Prince and Dexter Jones; daughter, Marie Jones; grandson, Peter Jones and brother, David Jones.
She is survived by her children: Patricia “Pat” Benham, David (Ruby Jean) Jones of Cartersville, Georgia, Frankie (Chester) Forsh of Douglasville, Georgia, Terry Jones, Sr. and Anthony Jones of Cartersville, Georgia, and Shawn (Alma) Jones of Ellenwood, Georgia; sister, Dorothy Moore of Springfield, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Earnestine Young-Jones of Kingston, Georgia; special nieces Brenda (John) Carter of Buford, Georgia and Leatrice Terhune of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Brian (Carol) Benham of Cartersville, Georgia, Barry (Debra) Benham of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jamie (Eric) Clapham of Summerset, South Dakota, Whitney Forsh of Winston, Georgia, Shannon “Jamal” Banks of Brooklyn, New York, Terry, Jr., Michael, Terica and LeAnn Jones all of Cartersville, Georgia, Dexter “Deuce” and Prince Jones of Kingston, Georgia; 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
