James Harold Wheeler, affectionately known as “Buck” was born September 21, 1941, to the late Webster Wheeler and Willie Lee Green Wheeler. He was the youngest of fifteen children.

James was educated in the Bartow County School System. He graduated from Summer Hill High School with the class of 1962. He was known as one of the great basketball players on the team. After graduating he entered the United States Air Force where we served in the Vietnam War. In March 1983 James transferred to the United States Army, and as Staff Sergeant he served many years achieving multiple accolades. He was active in the United States Army Reserves from 1974-1998. During that time, he was in the Gulf War stemming from 1990-1991. James retired from the military and was Honorably discharged.

After returning home he was employed with Union Carbide, where he retired after many years of service. Buck joined New Hope Baptist Church, while serving there he was a faithful member.

James was also a member of The New Frontier Club; He always enjoyed the meeting, the fundraisers and just being with the other members.

Buck loved just being “Grandaddy”. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch watching his sports and westerns. He took pride in attending to his fishpond, that he made himself. Her made sure all his cats and dogs were fed. By the way his yard was always clean and the grass cut. As we all know, it was his way or no way. He said what he meant, and he meant what he said.

At the end of the day he didn’t love anything more than his wife, son, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, siblings, family, friends, and The Wheeler Dinners.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories; his loving wife of fifty-four years, Barbara Wheeler; son, Martez Wheeler; grandchildren, Trevahn Wheeler, Tyrin Wheeler, and other special grandchildren; two special great-grandsons, Greyson Wheeler and Jayce Brown; three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A special thank you to Frensius Kidney Care, Amedisys Hospice Care, Myra and Duncan Livsey, Tecia Cotton, Takisha Dudley and James Owens III.
