John Wesley Stephens,Sr., 82 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00A.M. at Queens Chapel Independent Methodist Church, 105 Johnson Street, Kingston, Georgia 30145 . The body will lie in state in the church until the hour of service. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia 30114. James Wesley Stephens Sr. was born February 6, 1942 in Kingston, Georgia to the late Thomas and Alice Cherry Stephens. He was a member of QueensChapel Independent Methodist Church. John was educated in the Bartow County School System, graduating from Summer Hill High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army in 1963. After three years of service , John was Honorably discharged in 1966. He met and married Jannie L. Mitchell and to this union three children were born; John W. Stephens Jr., JohnathanStephens and Janel M. Stephens. JohnLoved his family and was very proud of them. After returning to Kingston, he accepted a job with Goodyear and retired after thirty plus years of service.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jannie Stephens, son Johnathan Stephens; and granddaughter Danielle Stephens " (Cody)".
Left to cherish his memories are his children, John W. (Stephanie) Stephens Jr., JanelM. Stephens; five grandsons, Joshua Stephens, Johnathan Stephens, Jacquis Hunt, Zyane Stephens and Zyair Stephens; granddaughter, Kenya Foster; great grandson, Jayden Stephens; and a great granddaughter, Novah Hunt; siblings, Virginia Zachery, Jackie Favors, James Franklin (Glenda ) Stephens and Samuel (Marie) Stephens; three special nieces, Darlene Banks, Charlene Stephens-Smith, and Marlene Philbert; and a host of other cousins and friends. He will be dearly missed and remembered by all who knew him.
