Clifford Benham Obituary

Mr. Clifford N. Benham, aka "Shot", 84 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00pm at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia. The body will lie in state in the church from 12:00pm (noon) until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia.
Clifford Nathaniel Benham, affectionally known as Shot was born on September 16, 1934 to the late Clifton Nathan and Lucille Dial Benham.At an early age Shot joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he later became a deacon under the leadership of Reverend Eugene H. Mitchell. He was also a member of the E. H. Mitchell and Jeffery Milner Choirs and the Mount Zion Male Chorus.
Shot attended Bartow County schools through the 11th grade and was then drafted into the United States Army. After being Honorably Discharged, Shot was employed at Lockheed Martin ARA as a chef for 47years. After retiring from Lockheed in 2009,Shot was recruited by Roger Kahn Cattle Company to behead chef along with his long-time cooking partner Geraldine Ledbetter. The duo worked side by side for several years until fully retiring. Shot was joined together in loving matrimony to Betty Ruth Callahan on December 24, 1957. To this union three children were born.
Shot was passionate about caring for the needs of others as was evident in his willingness to take meals to the sick and shut-in around the Cartersville community, especially those in his Jones St. circle. Shot was a member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge.
On Saturday evening, February 23, 2019  Shot’s spirit left him quietly and peacefully as God’s angels watched over him.

He was proceeded in death by his son Byron, his parents and his brother Alfred Sr. and his brother-in-law Floyd Callahan.


Shot leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 61 years, Betty R. Benham; two daughters Wanda B.Johnson (James) of Indianapolis and Pamala A. Benham of Cartersville; grandchildren, Terance JeBron Benham (LaShala) of Cartersville, Candace Malone and Christian Marie Preston of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Kolbe JeBron, Jaylen DeVon and Audrey Ruth Benham of Cartersville; Darrien James Preston-Boyd and Nathaniel Lee Preston- Bell of Indianapolis; brother’s in-law Joseph Callahan, E.L. (Marilyn) Callahan of Cartersville and Charles Johnson of Emerson; sister’s-in-law Laura Callahan, Annie May Callahan, Glenda Callahan and Doris Callahan all of Cartersville; special cousin Sarah Gaither and Clarence Kincaid; and a host of special nephews , nieces, cousins and friends, all of whom loved him dearly.
