Mrs. Marie Arlevie Furr Buffington, 82 of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Taylor Street, Acworth, Georgia 30101. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, 2950 Cobb Parkway N., Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the hour of service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, GA. 30120.
On Thursday night, February 15, 2018, Marie Arlevie Furr Buffington transitioned peacefully into her new home. She joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as she stepped into a place of wellness, wholeness, love, and forgiveness. Marie was born March 23, 1935, in Woodstock, Georgia to her mother, Eliza Mae Strickland. After the union of Eliza Mae to Allen Hudson Furr, she was adopted and grew up in a loving home provided by the late Allen Hudson Furr and Eliza Mae Strickland Furr.
Marie received her education in the Cobb County School System. As a young lady, she experienced a new birth when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church of Acworth, Georgia. As a life-long member, she served in the Choir, on the mother’s board, as well as a volunteer for various community organizations.
In 1956, Marie married her soul mate, John L. Buffington of Acworth, Georgia. They enjoyed traveling to Florida, entertaining, and fellowship with family and friends. Through their union as a family, they raised two boys, James Willie Furr and Lanorris Buffington. She demonstrated her love for John by being a devoted wife, mother, and supporter of his business endeavors up until his death.
Marie had a successful career at Coats and Clarks Inc. of Acworth, Georgia for 25 years until it closed in 1989. She later worked in the Cobb County Public School System for seven years. She continued to show her love for life and people by working as a companion sitter for George Higgins until his death.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Buffington; brother, Richard Furr; and sisters Virginia Harden, and Delorese Haynes.
After many years of battling with arthritis and dementia, God took Marie peacefully on her heavenly flight to meet the Lord. Marie leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, James Furr (Bessie) of Cartersville, Georgia and Lanorris Buffington of Acworth, Georgia; one sister, Marie Watkins of Ringgold, Georgia; grandchildren, Stephen Hughes (Sarah) of Ballground, Georgia, SonJia Senita Pritchett of Marietta, Georgia, Kimberly Mitchell, Horace Shaw (Monica), Dexter Shaw (Kim), and Jaretta Shaw all of Cartersville, Georgia; as well as, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
