Ms. Jerrylene (Hill) Hill

Ms. Jerrylene "Geraldine" Hill, 77, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 1:00pm at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, GA 30120. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, GA 30120. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, GA 30120.

Jerrylene was born on June 19, 1942 to the late Pariese and Essie Mae Hill. She was the third of ten children born to this union.
She grew up in the White Circle Community of Marietta, Georgia. Jerrylene was educated in the Cobb County School System, graduating from Lemon Street High School.

After coming to Cartersville, Georgia due to her love for children she was known as the “Babysitter of Summerhill”. She was inspired by the children, which led her to become the librarian of Summer Hill Complex. As time would have it, Jerrylene became a grandmother herself and her grandchildren called her “Big Mama” which she wore this Title proudly. Not only did she keep her grandchildren but numerous children throughout the neighborhood, and she was “Big Mama” to the Summer Hill Community.

Big Mama was always jovial, talking about her family, and full of laughter and expressing her love for everyone. She kept you laughing and in stitches all the time. To know HER was to LOVE her.

Jerrylene was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Ledbetter; great grandchild, Kendell McClendon; her parents; and her sister, Vicki Hill.

She leaves to cherish her memories; children, Jerri (Dennis) Knowles, Hubert (Keisha) Ledbetter, Angela Ledbetter, Maria (David) Turner and Corey Jackson; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren; siblings, Mildred McGuthry, Lorene Garrett, Alvin (Diane) Hill, Viola (Arthur) Wilson, Aaron (Vanessa) Hill, Ada Newsome, Emily Hill and Faye (Jesse) Bonner; special friends, Debona Williams, Betty Ruth Benham, Margaretta Milner and Bobbie Jean Green; plus a special thanks to Susan Buford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends.
