Ms. Johnnie Mae (Heard) Heard

Ms. Johnnie Mae Heard, 73, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

Service for Ms. Heard will be held Friday, December 20, 2019, 12:00 P.M. at Glory Harvester Church, 1988 Joe Frank Harris Parkway N.W., Cartersville, Georgia 30120.  She will lie in-state from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service.  Interment will immediately follow the service at Cassville Cemetery, Cassville, Georgia.

Johnnie Mae Heard was born on June 20, 1946 in Cartersville, Georgia to late John Oliver Heard and Pauline Beavers Heard. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. James A.M.E. Church in Cassville. She later joined Jesus Alive Mission Church under the leadership of Pastor Lillian Beavers. She served on the financial board and was a faithful member for fifteen years.

Johnnie Mae attended Noble Hill and Bartow Elementary School during her early years. She attended Summer Hill High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. She was an outstanding player on the basketball court.

She worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant for over thirty years.

Johnnie Mae was active in many areas of our community. She instituted the “Golden Girls” Pageant for ladies eighty years and over celebrating their “Golden Years”. She served as Vice-President of the Noble Hill Wheeler Memorial Center; a member of the St. James AME Church Historical Preservation Committee; as part of the Jesus Alive Outreach Ministry, they went to nursing homes and brought joy by singing and spreading love. Each year at Easter , she coordinated the Cassville Community Easter Egg Hunt Celebration.

Johnnie was a firm believer in promoting love and unity through family reunions and other holiday celebrations. She was considered as the Godmother of the family children.

Johnnie Mae was a loving, caring person with an understanding HEART.

Her parents, John Oliver and Pauline Heard, precede her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory; sister, Ernestine Heard; brother, Ronald Heard; family, Godchildren, special cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
