May 4, 1939 ~ April 15, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Mrs. Sarah Knowles Harden, 77, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Emerson, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1600 Old Concord Road, Marietta, Georgia 30060. Interment will follow in Emerson Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia.

Sarah Louise Knowles Harden, was born on May 6, 1939 in Emerson Georgia to the late Hattie Lewis and Harold Knowles.

Sarah was educated in the Bartow County Public School System; in 1959 she graduated from Summer Hill High School in Cartersville, Georgia.

She received her early spiritual teaching at Damascus Baptist Church in Emerson, GA. As a young lady she experienced a new birth when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Sarah always exemplified a servant’s heart and faithfully served in every ministry which she was connected. At Greater Springfield Baptist Church in Atlanta, she served on the Usher Board, when she joined House of Liberty in Cartersville, Ga; she served on the Mothers’ Ministry, Finance Ministry, Usher Board, Kitchen Ministry and Pastor’s Support Ministry for 26 years. Upon uniting with Pilgrim Baptist Church in Marietta, GA, Sarah served with the Pastor’s Support Ministry, Kitchen Ministry and the Usher Board.

Sarah became a dental assistant for William B.Shropshire, D.D.S.who saw her potential and skill, took her under his tutelage as an apprentice to become a dental hygienist and prepared her to take the dental hygienist state board exam for licensure. After earning her licensure, for over 40 years she worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Shropshire and Dr. Hubbard.

On September 2, 1989, Sarah married Joe Harden. They enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends and family and serving in the ministry.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Joe Harden; two sisters, Mrs. Christine Weems of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mrs. Laura Freeman (Joe) of Riverdale, Georgia; one brother, Deacon James Whitfield (Annie Ruth) of Emerson, Georgia; an aunt, Mrs. Louise Knowles; two daughters and one son; a mother-in-law, Mrs Louise Cooper; six brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law; her adopted granddaughter, Londin Duvall; The Shropshire Family, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
