Archie Martin, Jr

Mr. Archie Martin, Jr. , aka "Mike" , 73 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022, with his loving family by his bedside. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 1:00PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 12:00PM (Noon) until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery, 165 Old Tennessee Road NE, Cartersville, Georgia 30121.

Due to COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, physical distancing practices will be in place, and MASK ARE REQUIRED for those that will be attending the service. The family is the main concern during this time of bereavement and space will be limited. We have to ensure the family is able to attend the service, so there is a possibility of some friends not being admitted to the service.

Archie Martin, Jr. was born August 28, 1948 in Smyrna, Georgia to the late Archie Martin, Sr. and Ella Cox Martin.

Archie accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and was strong on his faith. He was a dedicated and devout member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA. where he served as a member of the Deacon Board until his health failed. Archie loved to sing and could be heard on Sunday mornings, prior to the sermon, filling the congregation with powerful and encouraging words about the Goodness, Grace, and Mercy of God.

Archie graduated from Lemon Street High School in 1966 in Marietta, GA where he participated in football. In 1967, Archie married the former Helen Freeman and to this union three daughters were born, Nichelle, Erika and Sherilyn. Later in 1986 he married the former Valarie Adel Kennedy and to this union one son was born, Archie Martin III (Trey). 

Archie loved to work and was a great provider for his family, as he was employed by Lockheed Martin, Trinity Rail, and Enforcer Products Inc. known as Zep. Archie was also an entrepreneur and owner of his well-known business named Martin's Maintenance Services and Contracting, LLC in Cartersville, GA. Archie loved traveling, listening to music, and spending time with his family.

On Sunday, February 20, 2022, Archie heard the voice of God call his name and he entered into eternal peace and rest.

Archie leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Valarie Kennedy Martin; daughters, Erika Lynn Martin and Sherilyn Sabrina Martin of Marietta, GA and his only beloved son, Archie (Maya) Martin III (Trey) of Rome, GA.; and two grandsons, Darius Taylor and Damion Taylor. He also leaves to cherish his memories three brothers; Glen (JoAnn) Martin of Marietta, GA., Aaron (Nora) Martin, Sr. of Acworth, GA., and Jimmy Lee Martin of Hiram, GA.; two sisters, Susan Martin of Atlanta, GA. and Pam Martin Edwards of Decatur, GA.; brothers-in-laws, Harold (Karen) Rosser of Acworth, GA., Rodney Kennedy, James W. Jones, and James Hudson of Cartersville, GA.; and Bruce (Issie) Kennedy of Warner Robins, GA.; sister-in-law, Denise (Theodore) Bryant of Powder Springs; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Martin, Sr. and Ella Cox Martin, his beloved daughter Nichelle Latrice Martin; in-laws, Zack and Hilery Kennedy; sister-in-law, Deborah Kennedy Hudson, and Barbara Jean Kennedy Ervin.
