Arthur Finis Spencer passed away peacefully on June 23, 2022. He fell asleep holding his dear wife, Angela’s hand and passed peacefully in his sleep. Arthur was born in Cartersville, GA on August 22,1959.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elliott and Mamie Spencer, his sister-in-law, Janie Raymond Spencer, his niece Amelia Carson Smith, and his brother Burnise Samuel Spencer.
In keeping with family tradition, Arthur has many names: Pepper, Pow Pow, Art, King Arthur (well- deserved, Cube (ice cold on the court) As his names indicate, Arthur was many things to many people. However, everyone who knew him knew certain things as fact – he was a man of character and truth. He had a truly beautiful and selfless nature.

Arthur was a standout athlete at Cass High School and wore Dr J’s # 33 as he led his team to state in basketball three years in a row. He graduated in 1977 and attended Oglethorpe College on a basketball scholarship. He later transferred to Shorter College where he met and fell in love the with the lovely and talented team statistician, Angela Hardeman. In 1983, she graciously accepted his marriage proposal and became his wife.

Though they did not give birth, they happily helped raise their nephew/son Gregory Leon Tuggle, II and loved his and Ave-Maria’s children Alona, Gregory, III (Little Gee), and Gabriella (Gabby) as their own. Arthur had a strong moral compass. He built his spiritual foundation as he grew up attending St Luke’s Baptist Church. He continued his commitment as he and Angie visited numerous churches when they moved to Covington, Ga. Arthur had a number of jobs over the years but he finished his career with 15+ years at ALPLA who retained him as an employee for the duration of his illness. Arthur also used his lifeguard skills to save several lives over the years.

He is survived by his siblings Eloise Ellis (Elmer), Carolyn Holmes, William Spencer, Elliott Spencer (Vera), Jerome Spencer, Deborah Miller Spencer, Rosa Spencer, Cleon Spencer, Dorothy Carson (Aaron); his loving in-laws Melinda and Harold Parks, Michael and Marlon Grant (bodyguards), Priscilla Davis (mother figure), as well as Mama Lucille Law and a host of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
