Betty Lou (Burton) Robinson, 87 passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 26, 1938 in Robstown, Texas.
Betty was the first born to the late Sidney Elmo Burton and Susie Lee (Winn) Burton. Mrs. Robinson, lovingly known as “Memaw” and Betty Lou, professed Christ at an early age and was baptized in faith at St. Peter African Methodist Church in Robstown, Texas.
She later served as the pianist for the youth choir at West Heaven Baptist Church until her family relocated to Trotwood, Ohio. She remained a faithful woman of God throughout her life. Her final church home was Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she continued to serve as a devoted member of both the Golden Tone Choir and the Senior Choir.
Betty Lou loved speaking about God, reading her Bible, and studying books that deepened her faith. She was passionate about serving the Lord and helping others.
In her quiet moments, she found joy in planting flowers and growing vegetables in pots. To know her was truly to love her. She attended Coles School and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was a proud member of the school choir. She continued her education at Del Mar Community College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Degree.
Betty Lou later pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending Tucker Beauty and Barber College in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked in various hair salons and showcased her talent in hairstyling, even earning Second Place in a Beauty Contest in Texas. Her sister Ida Bell proudly served as her model for winning hair design.
“Memaw” married the love of her life, Roger “Big Daddy” Robinson. Together they often shared the story of how they met, a story filled with laughter, charm, and undeniable connection. She would tell how she went out one night to the club with her friends hoping to meet a Navy Sailor everyone in Corpus Christi was talking about; a man known for his good hair and striking eyes. When Roger approached her and starts a conversation with her, she dismissed him without even looking his way. Roger replied well baby look up because I’m that man, good hair and striking eyes. When she looked up at him she exclaimed, “Ohhhh…. Robbie and fainted into his arms. From that moment on, their bond was undeniable, he was her soul mate, her everything.
Now they are together again in everlasting love. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger ”Big Daddy” Robinson; her parents, Sidney Elmo Burton and Susie Lee Burton; brother, Sidney Elmo “Rabbit” Burton, Jr.; sister, Ida Bell (Harold) Thompson; grandsons, Derikkoe Robinson and Everette Morton; and her beloved uncle, Harold Lee Winn who was like a brother to her; and son –in-law William Posey.
Betty Lou “Memaw” Robinson leaves to cherish her loving memory eight daughters and one son, Yolanda “Kay” Robinson Posey, Lisa Morton, Rogetta “GaGa” Robinson, Melinda “Linda” (Charlie) Watkins, Florence “DeeDee” Espinosa, Mardell “Bell” Speed, Darlene Mathis, Cheri Reed, and Garvin Hines; sisters, Bessie Lightner of Dallas, Texas, and Gloria “Ann” (Miner) Satterwhite of Corpus Christi, Texas; Memaw’s legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; she also leaves behind special friends, Francis Wiley of Robstown, Texas; Deana Rowland, Rainy McQueen, Kathleen Mitchell, Barbara Wheeler, Marcella Jones, Loretta Mays, Joyce Slocum and Ms. Mary Russell- her “ride or die,” affectionately known as “Thelma,” while Betty was “Louise.”
