On Saturday, December 16, 1944, the world was blessed when it was introduced to Bobbie Jean Stokes, a beautiful soul born in Hogansville, Georgia’s Troupe County. Bobbie was the first child born to Eddie and Ida Lou Shank Stokes. Her mom died when she was seven, so she was raised by her grandmother, Alice Mae Shank. Bobbie attended West End High School in Hogansville. During her teenage years, she often visited Adairsville and stayed with her Aunt Willie & Uncle Grady “Junior” Pullum. This is where she met and dated her boyfriend, Leroy Carter. After reaching adulthood, Bobbie moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where she met and married Charlie “CW” Brewer. During this union, they welcomed Christopher Brewer.
On July 1, 1978, the lives of the Carter family were changed when she married the love of her life, Leroy Carter. Bobbie loved her new family and treated her bonus children as if she birthed them herself. A short time was spent in Fairview Circle. In 1986, they were blessed to buy a home across town in the Atco community. In 1991, they joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where Bobbie served on the Mother’s Board. Throughout her life, Bobbie was employed at Tip Top Poultry and later worked in the cafeteria at Cass High School. She went on to work for the City of Cartersville, faithfully maintaining the buildings at City Hall as a tireless, dedicated custodian for 17 years. Bobbie retired from the city and returned to work for the Bartow County School System as a bus monitor. After some health challenges, she retired for the second and final time.
Bobbie enjoyed the rest of her days riding around the local areas with her husband, watching Lifetime movies, The Cutlers, and Judge Mathis. On Monday, May 22, 2023, Bobbie, peacefully slipped away in to the arms of our Creator. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother; sister, Oissie Mae Stokes Ware; and brother, Eddie Lee Stokes.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 44 years, Leroy Carter; sister, Leola Wilkey (Earl, Jr.); son, Christopher Brewer; stepson, Jeffrey McDaniels; stepdaughters, Darlene Carter Bryant, Alisa Carter, Stephanie Wilkins (Billy), and Chrissy Fisher; grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Annie Bell Carter Sanders, Joan Harris Carter, Shirley Lowe, and Cora Lowe; brothers-in-law, Melvin Lowe and James Moore; blessed best friends, Ruthie and James “JJ” Jones; Pastor John Lampley and Mt. Zion Missionary Church Family; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
