Mr. Bobby Joe Carr, 84, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) at Sunset Memory Gardens, 790 Indian Mound Road SE, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.

Bobby Joe Carr was born February 16, 1941, to the late Charles Lee Carr and Wynette Wilson Carr. He was the oldest of three children.

Bobby accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Saint Paul C.M.E. Church, Jacksonville, Alabama where he faithfully served as a member and Sunday School Superintendent until he left for college.

While in Anniston, Alabama he affiliated himself with Haven United Church and after moving to Cartersville, he joined Saint Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a devoted member of the Steward Board.

Bobby was a 1957 graduate of Calhoun County Training School, Hobson City, Alabama where he played football and later taught there. He received the Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Alabama State University in 1961. While attending Alabama State, he enjoyed sports and was a football and baseball letterman from 1957 – 1961.

Bobby completed his education by obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Education in 1975 and an Educational Specialist Degree in 1989 from Jacksonville State University. After graduating from Alabama State University, Bobby served as the Head Coach of football, basketball and baseball from 1963 – 1967 at Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

In 1967, he was Coach of the Year for Anniston High School Basketball; he was selected as Calhoun County Basketball Coach of the Year for two years. From 1981 to 1990, Bobby was the Boys’ Basketball Coach for Cartersville High School and Cass High School in Cartersville, GA.

He was the Regional Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1982. Bobby’s overall basketball record was 316 (wins) – 98 (losses). Bobby served as a School Administrator at Bartow County Schools and Cartersville City Schools for 16 years where he later retired in 2003.

His organizational affiliations include Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and New Frontier of Bartow County in which he received the President’s Award in 2011. Bobby was an avid fisherman, loved watching sports at all levels, and enjoyed working in his yard. He loved spending time with his family and playing pinochle with his friends.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife of forty-three years, Mary E. Carr; daughter, Veronica Makeupson; son, Brian (Eric) Carr; daughter, Diane (Curtis) Adams; daughter, Natalie Carr; bonus sons, Aloysius Palmore, Roderick Palmore, Trenny (Michelle) Palmore; sister, Carolyn (George) Green; sister Charlene Carr Elston; and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
