Corey Fionne (Coco) Holmes was born on June 6, 1972, to Ms. Janice Holmes Posey and Mr. Dorsey Ross Jr. in Marietta, Georgia. After a long and brave fight against cancer, Corey went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2022, at Emory University Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Corey never gave up hope, always kept the faith, and never stopped fighting until the very end. His family and friends are eternally grateful for how long he was able to hold on and for all the precious memories that they were able to share and hold closely in their hearts because of his faith, courage, and strength.
Corey was an absolute star! He loved sports, and God blessed Corey, allowing him to excel at everything he played. Corey was a standout from pound ball at Fair Oaks, to McEachern High School football, all the way to Western Kentucky. He won numerous awards over the years, including several “Player of the Week” awards and all county achievements. He was the first freshman in the Coach Jimmy Dorsey era to make varsity, and even scored a touchdown in his first game. As a sophomore, Corey led Cobb County in touchdowns and was nicknamed, “Hero Holmes” by the Marietta Daily Journal.
Corey spoke with his actions and showed how humble he was as he quietly set the ball in the end zone after scoring touchdowns week after week. His love for the game of football rivaled his love for baseball, as he consistently ran down fly balls as a center fielder for McEachern. Corey’s passion for athletics carried on from being a player, to being a coach. He coached middle school football at McEachern from 2010-2019, and coached baseball at East Cobb and McEachern from 2011-2022. Corey’s love for the game was second to his love for the kids that he had an opportunity to impact.
Corey did what few adults do...He did what he loved, and that was coaching. Corey was an amazing son, brother, cousin, nephew, teammate, and friend. He loved the Lord, and he loved people, and that was reflected in the way he lived.

Corey is preceded in death by his mother, Janice, his Uncle Ricky Holmes, and his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew (Lillie Sarah) Holmes.

Left to cherish his memories are his brother, Armand Rashad Posey, Aunt Carol Holmes, Uncle Reginald and Aunt Perrie Holmes, Uncle Randy Holmes, Aunt Sana Holmes, cousins Maisah Houston (Mario), Rwanda Holmes, Ryann Beasley (Terrell), Brandi Crews (Dedrick), Chloe and Colin Holmes. He enjoyed a very special bond with his honorary family: the Blunschi family,
the Brown family, the Burge family, the Bullard family, and the Stretch family, along with a host of loved ones, extended family and friends.

Due to COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, physical distancing practices will be in place, and MASK ARE REQUIRED for those that will be admitted to the service. The family is the main concern during this time of bereavement and space will be limited. We have to ensure the family is able to attend the service, so there is a possibility of some friends not being admitted. THIS SERVICE WILL BE LIVE-STREAMED.
