Mr. Calvin Gary Reese, Sr., 64, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Kennestone Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00P.M. at Greater Bethel Church, 211 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, Georgia 30188.
Calvin Gary Reese, Sr. was born on July 26, 1959 to the late Everlena (Sims) Reese and Charles Henry Reese,II in Marion, Ohio. He graduated from Marion Harding High and as the first duo degree 2-year class with Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School/Career Center in Culinary Arts/Food Service. Calvin also served in the United States Army.
Calvin put his education to use throughout his life working with such companies as the Einstein Bagels, Marriott Hotel, and Sodexho at Kennesaw State University. He has also worked in other restaurants, hotels, country and night clubs throughout Atlanta Metro area. He last worked at Atlanta country Club under the considerate supervision of Mr. Leonard Tate. He loved working with food and serving others. As his late brother Rodlin would say, he has the gift of gab. He never met a stranger. In 2003 Calvin, while working at Kennesaw State University, met Shelia Griffin Terry and then married the love of his life in 2005. They both loved and enjoyed traveling and entertaining family and friends.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Robert Sims, Charles H. Reese, III, George F. Reese, William P. Reese, Rodlin D. Reese, and Alexander Reese; two sisters, Yvonda A. Reese and Charlene R. Reese.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his lovely, devoted wife and caretaker to the very end Shelia Griffin Terry Reese; his sons, Austin McKenzie and Calvin Gary Reese, Jr., both of Snellville, Georgia, Tory (Sharanda ) Griffin, of Jacksonville, Florida, and stepson, Lionel T. George, of Snellville, Georgia; five brothers, Tommy T. (Crystal) Reese, Leslie A. Reese, Willie (Ricky) Jones, Lucius (Scoot) Jones, and Luther (Tuffy) Jones; sisters, Leila A. (Reese) Omene, Kathleen Y. (Reese) Hairston, and Thelma Green, all of Marion, Ohio; his dearest nephew, Charles (April) Reese, IV.; his favorite first cousin, Christopher Sims; his loving cousins for the loving care he provided to their father his first cousin, Willie Sims, Linda, Onieta, Geraldine, Marvin, and John; his wife's Jacksonville, Florida family who loved him unconditionally, his Mother-in-law, Bernice Griffin; brother-in-law, Rev. Jesse (Lannia) Griffin, Ronald Mahdi, Gary Clark, Von (Melissa) Griffin, Harold Clark, and Gerald (Gloria) Griffin; sisters-in-law, Gail Varnedoe, Jeanetta (Rev. Matthew) Wilcox, Jessica Griffin, and Cassandra Griffin; seven grandchildren, Jaiden McKenzie Reese, of Spartanburg, North Carolina, Loki Reese, of Conyers, Georgia, and Natasha (Kevin) Bush, Sakimm Jackson, Tory Griffin, Jr., Brianna Griffin, Trevon Griffin, Pleasure Worthen, all of Jacksonville, Florida; five greatgrands, Keynilia, Kevin, Keenan (Baby K) Bush and De'aira and Dior Wright, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of generations of nieces , nephews, and cousins.
