David Jones Obituary

Mr. David Lee Jones, 81 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife and family at his residence. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 1:00PM at Church at Liberty Square, 2001 Liberty Square Drive, Cartersville, GA 30121. The body will lie in state in the church from 12:00PM (Noon) until the hour of service. Interment will be on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 10:00AM at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, GA 30120 from 7:00PM - 8:00PM.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 12, 2022, while surrounded by his loving wife and family, David Lee Jones slipped into eternal peace. His long years of suffering came to an end. David was born February 11, 1941 to the late Ora Lee Gay and late Frank Jones. David was educated in the Cartersville City School System and in 1963 he enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country he acquired many medals and awards, such as the National Defense Service Medal, Commendation Medal, 2 OLC Vietnam Service Medals, 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation - Army, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal – 5th AWD, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon – 3rd AWD, Meritorious Service Medal – 5th AWD, Army Service Ribbon, and many, many more. After twenty plus years of serving in the Army, he retired.

David married his childhood sweetheart, Ruby Jean Edwards, in 1965 and was married until his passing for fifty-seven years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Prince Stewart and Dexter Jones; a sister, Marie Ailene Jones; his Grandmother who raised him, Leila Gay; Aunt, Leila Elizabeth Pruitt; and bonus Mother, Letha Jones.

Left to cherish David loving memories is his loving, devoted wife and caretaker, Mrs. Ruby Jean Jones; sister, Mrs. Frankie (Chester) Forsh; three brothers, Mr. Jerry Jones, Sr., Mr. Anthony “Tony” Jones, and Mr. Shawn (Alma) Jones; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernestine Young Jones; two special cousins, that were involved in his care, Mr. Reuben “Ray” Gay and Mr. Garrett Gay; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins loved ones and friends.
