Mother Della Louise Strickland, 98 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away quietly at her residence on Saturday, July 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00A.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the chapel from 10:00A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120.
On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Della Louise “Luka” Strickland went to her heavenly home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
Della Louise was born on January 30, 1925 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Lizzie Mark and James Kay. She was affectionately called her “Luka” by her family and close friends.
She attended and graduated from Summer Hill School.The Bartow County School System hired Della Louise, as a Dietary Nutritionist. After twenty- five plus years of service, she retired from Cartersville Primary School. Luka was known for her good cooking, and her son named his Café Luka’s Kitchen in honor of his mother.
Della Louise united in Holy Matrimony to Alonzo Strickland Sr.and to this union three children were born, Harriet, Hattie Pearl, and Donald Strickland.
Luka was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She served on several organizations; Mt. Zion Missionary Church Study Club and The Mother’s Board just to name a few.
She loved going to yard sales, studying dream books and playing the lottery.
Luka is preceded in death by her parents, Lizzie Kay and James Kay Sr.; sisters, Eva Mae Archie and Annie Lee Lewis; brother, James Kay, Jr.; and grandson Corey Youngblood.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, children, Harriet (Eddie) Wells, Hattie Pearl Perry, and Donald Strickland; nineteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild; a special cousin, Minister Eloise Jackson; a special friend, Irene Cooley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
