Dexter LaShawn Shaw, 54 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Advent Health Care in Rome, Georgia. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 12:00P.M. (Noon) at House of Liberty Church, 10 Womack Drive SE, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 11:00AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery, 165 Old Tennessee Road, Cartersville, Georgia 30121. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.
Dexter LaShawn Shaw, Sr. was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Advent Health Redmond Hospital in Rome, Georgia surrounded by his loving family. Dexter was born June 13, 1969 in Cartersville, Georgia to Bessie Scrutchins and the late Horace Edward Shaw, Sr. He was the third of four children.
He was educated in the Bartow County School System; he attended Emerson Elementary, Cass Middle School and graduated from Cass Comprehensive High School in 1988. Following high school, Dexter received a Basketball Scholarship to Lee University (formerly Lee College) in Cleveland, Tennessee. Dexter was affectionately called by his friends "U sta b Dexter B." His outgoing personality made him the life of every event. Whether he was balling on the court at Old Cass High School or selling "Hot Fish." Dexter B. was ready for any occasion. His one soft spot was his family. Dexter loved his wife Kim and affectionately referred to her as his "Little Wifey," Dex, Trev, Bailee, Easton, and Nova was his WHOLE WORLD. Not many people can remember a time when there was no Dexter without Kim because ; they have been a thing since middle school!! Their love withstood all the tests of time and through it all, she has always been there.
Dexter's infectious laugh and sense of humor knew no bounds and everyone who met him loved him instantly!
Dexter was preceded in death by his, father, Horace Shaw, Sr.; grandparents, George Shaw, Lula Francis Shaw, Clyde Blalock, Mae Rose Blalock, Garnett Fowler, Ruth Fowler; and grandson, Tru Shaw.
He leaves to cherish his memory, hid dedicated and loving wife, Kimberly Wofford Shaw; children, Dexter (DeShawna Griffin) Shaw, Jr., Trevor (Leira Nelson) Shaw; grandchildren, Bailee Shaw, Easton Shaw, and Nova Shaw; Mother, Reverend Bessie (James) Furr; Parents-in-law, Willie and Sheila Wofford; Siblings, Kimberly Mitchell, Horace (Monica) Shaw, and Jaretta (Teela) Shaw Callahan, Todd (Aja) Wofford, Paula Canate, Senita Pritchett; Aunts, Barbara Perkinson, Linda (Nathaniel) Perkinson, Doris Shaw, Tammy (George) Yearwood, Texas (William) Haney, Stephanie (Thomas) Kersey, Beverly (Randy) Livsey, Clara Gregg, Georgia Echols, Bonnie (Roger) Johnson, Gloria (Louis) Belcher, Alma (Bill) Byrd, Rita Hudson, Alice Fowler; Uncles, Ricky Cotton, Randolph (China) Blalock, Walter (Lucille) Blalock, Larry Blalock, Ronald (Sharon) Hudson; Godmother, Charlotte Linley; Special cousins, Shannon Perkinson, Kevin Knowles, Fred Scrutchins, Cynthia Russell, and Rebecca Jones; Special friends, Scott Mays, Ricky Patton, The Corner Boys, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
