Dr. F. Lionell Jordan was born on September 19, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late Beatrice and Walter Jordan. Following the untimely passing of his father, he was lovingly raised by his devoted paternal grandmother, Millie Jordan, alongside the enduring guidance of his father during his early years. From these humble beginnings, a life of purpose, faith, and service began to unfold.

Dr. Jordan received his early education in the Kansas City, Kansas public school system. He later attended Western Bible Baptist College in Kansas City, Missouri, a Historically Black College where destiny aligned, and he met the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Douglas. Their union spanned an extraordinary 62 years, filled with unwavering love and devotion. Affectionately calling her “Kitten,” he cherished her deeply. Together, they built a strong and faith-centered family, raising four children—Caryle, LaShon, Cory, and Corby—and lovingly welcoming two additional daughters into their hearts and home, Carolyn Shaffer and Anika Williams.

The Jordan household was firmly rooted in the Word of God, guided by the foundational scripture, John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This divine principle shaped not only their family life but also Dr. Jordan’s lifelong ministry.

A gifted and anointed expositor of the Gospel, Dr. Jordan was called and ordained by God to preach, teach, and equip the Body of Christ. After his time at Western, he pursued advanced theological studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia, focusing on Religious Education. His passion for learning led him to further studies at several esteemed institutions, including Howard University, Tuskegee Institute, Central Michigan University, Park University, Trinity, and Faith Bible Colleges, where he earned multiple degrees, culminating in a Doctorate. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Omega.

His dedication to holistic ministry extended beyond the pulpit. Dr. Jordan received certification in mental health and addiction services from the Research Hospital Psychiatric Center in Kansas City, Missouri, equipping him to minister to both the spiritual and emotional needs of those he served.

Throughout his distinguished ministry, Dr. Jordan preached revivals across the nation, from Colorado to Georgia, spreading the Gospel with clarity, conviction, and compassion. He served as Chairman of Jordan Bible Ministries and as a respected professor at Faith Bible College and Seminary. In recognition of his profound impact and lifelong service, he was honored with an Honorary Doctorate from Carver College in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2013.

A devoted missionary at heart, Dr. Jordan instilled a spirit of service in his children. He faithfully served communities in Eastern Kentucky, providing aid to those in the Appalachian region, and led mission efforts within the Navajo Nation. As Chairman of the Gospel Love Missions Team, he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to reaching the underserved and spreading the love of Christ.

Dr. Jordan was also a courageous civil rights leader in Kansas City, advocating for justice and equality. Widely respected as both a preacher and teacher, he influenced countless lives and was recently honored to serve as an instructor for the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Deacons and Pastors Forum in Kansas City, Missouri.

His pastoral journey included shepherding Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Central Missouri and Mt. Celestial Baptist Church in McBaine, Missouri. He also served faithfully as Assistant Pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, Missouri. Upon returning to Kansas City in the late 1960s, he continued his ministry at Progressive Baptist Church.

In addition to his spiritual leadership, Dr. Jordan served his community in various professional roles. He worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer, where he was commended for his bravery in saving a young person’s life. He dedicated many years as an educator within the Kansas City, Missouri School District and Carver Christian Day School. He also served as an Investigator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Above all, Dr. Jordan was a man of deep love—for his family, for people, and for the Lord. Known for his quick wit and joyful spirit, he brought laughter to those around him and was regarded as one of the funniest individuals many had ever known. He was a trusted mentor, a wise counselor, and a faithful servant who preached the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ for 63 years and pastored for 62 years.

Dr. Jordan leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Dr. Carolyn Sue Jordan; his six children, Dr. C.L. Jordan (Peggy), LaShon Jordan, Rev. Cory L. Jordan (Vikki), Rev. Corby Jordan, Carolyn Shaffer, and Dr. Anika Williams; and his cherished grandchildren, India, Keiland, John, A’kia (Nick), Kaleb (Nyla), A’Keisha, and Cara. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Xander, and a host of loving nieces—Marcia, Robin, Rarla, Laya, Cabria, Leslie, Gerri, Ranada, Brittany, and Brandi; nephews, Gerry Jr., Larry Franklin and Larry ; along with many extended family members, friends, and countless lives touched by his ministry.
