Erma Jean (McCoy) McConnell

Mrs. Erma Jean McCoy McConnell, 70 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Cartersville Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke AME Church, 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. 

Erma Jean McCoy was born October 10, 1948 to the late William E. "Jack" McCoy and Ethel Jackson McCoy. She was married to the late William "Cecil" McConnell for 40 years.

Erma graduated with the "Class of 1967" from Summer Hill High School in Cartersville, Georgia. She was known as a  fierce basketball player for the Blue Devils.Erma joined St. Luke A.M.E. Church at an early age , where she enjoyed singing in the G. C. Hoke Choir, and working diligently in the kitchen. Erma worked iS Corporate America for Hoffman & LaRoche, and Freebairn & Company for the majority of her life. She soon ventured out on her own opening First Class Janitorial Service. Erma was the proud owner of First Class Janitorial Service for 20 years.

Jean as most people referred to her had a heart of gold and whatever she had, you had. Her children and grandchildren were her whole world. She was known for the hard hugs and kisses. Erma had an understanding spirit and forgiving heart. She loved having family around and never met a stranger.

Erma leaves to cherish many loving memories, her children, Sonya, Demetrius, Dorian (Stacy), Marcus (Contrina) and special daughter, Nicole; sister, Rose McCoy; brother, Jimmy Brown; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.
