Ernest Paul Jones

Mr. Ernest Paul Jones, 69 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church, 106 Fire Tower Road, Cartersville, GA 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 10:00am until the hour of service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, GA 30120. Interment will be on June 3, 2019 at 1:30pm in the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114.

Ernest Paul Jones was the youngest of six boys, born on September 6, 1949 in Rome, Georgia to the late William and Fannie Jones.He was given the nickname "Pimp" by his family, because of the cool way he walked. He served in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged on September 21, 1970 after serving in the Vietnam Era. Ernest received several medals while serving his country, including the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. While stationed in Germany, Ernest met the love of his life, Carolyn Green and they were married in 1971.

Ernest attended Tennessee School of Technology, becoming a Certified Machinist and a Certified Electrician, which led him to his career at LTV Steel in Gary, IN.and Thrall Car in Cartersville, GA. He was proud to serve his fellow veterans and friends, through the work he provided as a member of the American Legion Post #506.

He had a passion for baseball. Ernest coached the Brunswick and Tolleston Little League baseball teams. He enjoyed shooting pool and playing bid whist. He was extremely smart and will always be remembered for lending a helpful hand in assisting with homes and auto projects.

While surrounded by family and friends, Ernest was called to his heavenly home at the age of 69 on May 22, 2019. He was greeted at the gates by his parents and brothers, Will and Phillip.

His memories will be cherished by his beloved and devoted wife of 47 years, Carolyn Jones; children, Daphne Glanton of Maryland, Shamonda Jones of California, Tuarus (Tameka) Jones, Jamaal Jones, both of Cartersville, GA., Ja'mal (Sheena)Jones and Marcel Jones, both of Gary,IN.; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, Charles, Robert (Judy) and Richard (Asentia); sisters-in-law, Artelia and Sarah; very special cousins, Hershel and Lavinia Elliott; special friends, Adam Smith, Jimmy Scott, John Williams, Big John, Robert Banks, Freddie Duhe, Jabo and Ruthel; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
