Ernest was born on July 20, 1945, in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Aaron Martin, Sr and the late Ruby Knuckles Martin.  He was a member of a large family, growing up alongside nine siblings, including his fraternal twin sister, Evelyn, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.  Ernest graduated from Summerhill High School in 1966, after which he attended trade school.  He was an employee of Lockheed Martin and retired with 41 years of service in 2008.

Ernest married Mildred Arnold on February 8, 1974 and their union was blessed with two sons.  He valued providing and taking care of his family.   Ernest enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He loved attending family reunions and organizing the annual family fish fry. He devoted his life to seeking and serving God.  Ernest last attended Full Gospel Church in Kingston, Georgia.  Due to his prolonged illness, Ernest was eventually unable to attend church in person, but he frequently listened to services online.  Ernest found great enjoyment in discussing and debating biblical matters with family and friends.

Due to extended illness, Ernest experienced decreased mobility and became semi-bedbound over the past three years.  With the help of his devoted wife, children, and extended family and friends, Ernest was able to enjoy time with family and friends until his last day, December 10, 2025 when he was called home to be with the Lord.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Ruby Martin; brothers, Aaron Martin, Jr. and Reuben C. Martin; sisters, Catherine Martin, Betty J. James, Ethel M. Johnson and Eddie Dorothy Miller; and sister in-law, Fay Jewell (Walter).

Ernest is survived by his dedicated wife of 51 years, Mildred Martin; two devoted sons, Timothy P. Martin (Millbrook, Alabama) and Ernest Lamont Martin (Adairsville, Georgia); brother, Bobby Joe Martin (Kharon) (Las Vegas, Nevada); sisters, Evelyn Moore (Cartersville, Georgia), and Marilyn Martin (Cartersville, Georgia); sisters in-law, Shirley Henderson (Cartersville, Georgia), Cora Wood (George) (Cartersville, Georgia), Joyce Vazquez (Tony) (Cartersville, Georgia), Barbara Speights (Richard) (Cartersville, Georgia); and brother in-laws, Ronald Arnold (Marion) (Yorkville, Georgia) and Ellis Arnold (Renita) (Dallas, Georgia); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
