Mr. George Shropshire Jones, 86, of Cartersville, Georgia passed on Friday, February 24, 2023.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Luke AME Church 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Interment will take place on Monday, March 6, 2023, 12:00 P.M. at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, 790 Indian Mounds Road SE, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The family will receive friends and family at the Funeral Home Friday, March 3, 2023 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Please keep the Jones family in you thoughts and prayers.
George Shropshire Jones Sr. was born in Cartersville, Georgia on October 11, 1936. He lft this Earth to be in God's care on February 24, 2023. He was the only son of the late Nettie Bird Williams and Robert Jones. George was loved by his family as well as his community.
George attended Summer Hill School and played on the Blue Devils football team. After completing high school, he went on to work various jobs including Kerr-McGee Fertilizer, Red Rock Bottling Company, and Thrall Car Manufacturing Company. The job he most enjoyed and was well known for was his job as Custodian at Cartersville High School. He dedicated 40 years to the school, students and staff of Cartersville High.
He always lifted the halls with a bright smile and kind words. George was a die-heart "CANE" Fan, when he could attend the games, he would, but when he couldn't he followed them on the radio.
George was united in holy matrimony to Carolyn Rogers on February 14, 1960. They spent 63 years dedicated to each other and their family. Together they raised three children Andra, George Jr., and Charles Sr. George was a man of few words, hardworking and dedicated to his family.
When he was not working you could find George spending time outside cooking on the grill, doing yard work, watching westerns, or just talking about sports. His favorite sporting events were of course anything Cartersville Purple Hurricanes. Go Canes!!!
George is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Diane Williams.
His memories will be forever cherished by his beloved wife, Carolyn ; daughter, Andra "Jingle Bells" Jones; two sons, George "Buster" (Kathy) Jones Jr. and Charles (Shundi) Jones Sr.; four grandchildren, La"Quita (Antoine) Miller, Kealla Jones, Valerie Jones, and Charles "Chaz" Jones Jr.; three great grandchildren, NiAsia Arnold, Kaeden Miller, and Keegan Miller; brother James Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
