Mr. James "Jimmy" William Patton, 87 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Luke A.M.E.Church, 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. - 7: 00 P.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.
Mr. James William Patton, Jr. fondly known as Jimmy was born September 20,1938 in Cartersville, GA to James William Patton, Sr. and Mary Francis Carey Patton. Jimmy received his heavenly wings on April 13, 2026. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia M. Patton; and his son, Kyle G. Patton. Jimmy attended and graduated in 1956 from Summer Hill High School in Cartersville, GA where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. After graduating from high school, Jimmy furthered his education by attending Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, AL for 2 years before entering the workforce. Though he did not graduate from Tuskegee Institute, the university remained very dear to his heart until the very end.
In November 1961, Jimmy was drafted into the US Army which he proudly served until November 1963. Upon completion, he returned home to Cartersville, GA to enter the civilian workforce. While working for Union Carbide Corp., Jimmy went back to school and obtained his associate degree in Drafting Engineering from Southern Technical Institute which enabled him to become a Drafting Engineer for Union Carbide Corp. After the closing of Union Carbide Corp. in Cartersville, GA, Jimmy retired after 30 years in the workforce with Goodyear, Lockheed, Union Carbide Corp. and Clorox Co./First Brand Corp.
Jimmy joined St. Luke AME Church at a very early age and was very active in the church. He served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, choir member and a member of the Sons of Allen.
Jimmy was married to Virginia Moore Patton until her passing 56 years later. Their union produced two sons, Kenneth B. Patton and the late Kyle G. Patton.
Jimmy leaves behind his son, Kenneth B. Patton of Powder Springs, GA; his siblings, Patricia (Sherman) Broadnax of Cartersville, GA; Rosemary P. Nolan of St. Louis, MO; Richard T. Patton of Cartersville, GA; Westley C. (Jackie) Patton of Powder Springs, GA; brother-in-law, Howard Moore, Jr.; special cousins, Rosetta Strickland of Cartersville, GA and Robetta McKenzie of Augusta, GA; sister-friend Vyola (Charles) Foster of Cartersville, GA and special friend, Mary Alice Johnson of Cartersville, GA. Jimmy also leaves behind nephews and nieces, C. Patrick (Kim)Buffaloe; Alisa N. (Richard) Carruthers; Christopher J. (Shannon) Buffaloe; Terrick (Pam) Patton; Don-Demonico D. Patton; Vance Patton; Shannon Patton; Colin Buffaloe; LaMysa Foster Laney; Yolanda Y Jones; special cousins Monique Strickland-Hall and Michelle Strickland and a host of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
