James William Prater

Mr. James William Prater, 75, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 1:00PM at Cassville Cemetery, Cassville, Georgia 30123.

James William Prater was born on March 19, 1945 to the late Benjamin Franklin Prater, Sr. and the beautiful Ada Evelyn (Kent) Prater. He was raised in Polk County, Georgia. He later moved on to Cartersville, Georgia with the love of his life Mrs. Hattie Mae Beavers-Prater. 

"Prater" as he was called by those that knew him was an outgoing, lovable person. He loved music. He was a devoted member of "The Faithful Travelers." He played for New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and he loved to travel and show off his amazing gift of music. Anytime he was around , laughter filled the room and he knew just what to say to put a smile on your face.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2020 , God stepped in the room and said "Come home my child, your work here is done."

James Prater was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles Kent, Clifford Prater and Benjamin Prater, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories; children Rico Smith and Nina Hudgins; the love of his life, Hattie Mae Beavers-Prater; four step-children, Perry Beavers, Tammy Washington, Jimmy Beavers and Timothy Beavers- Miller; two sisters, Barbara Harris (Gary), Roberta Benham (Robert); five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
