James Thomas Roberts, Sr.

Mr. James Thomas Roberts,Sr. 73 of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00AM at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1600 Old Concord Road, Marietta, Georgia 30060. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Acworth, Georgia 30101. The body will lie in state in the church from 10:00AM until the hour of service. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 6:00PM - 7:00PM at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.

On May 2, 2023, James Thomas Roberts, Sr. , affectionately known as “Sonny”, was called to his heavenly home. Sonny or “Uncle Nub” as he was commonly called was born on May 18, 1949 in Lithia Springs, Georgia to the late Jay Hugh and Mary Ellison Roberts.

In 1983 Sonny accepted Christ into his life. He was educated in the Acworth School System. He was employed for over twenty years with Chumley Paving until his retirement.

Sonny married the love of his life, Regina Mitchell on August 30, 1983. They had two beautiful children, Thomas and Felicia.

He loved listening to music and dancing and always ready to have a good time with family and friends.  Sonny also loved watching Old Western TV Shows and the Philadelphia Eagles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Mary Roberts; siblings, Nellie Mae, Jay Hugh, Jr., Mary Elizabeth, Martha (Tommy) , Shirley and Milton.

Sonny leaves to cherish his loving memories his devoted wife, Regina; children, James Thomas Roberts Jr. (Rachel) and Felecia Roberts-Miller; grandchildren, Chaside, Fred “Nate” and Dashawn Miller, Minniecia (Fred) Saunders, Kyree, Micaiah and Jaden Roberts; his one and only great-grandson, Chosen James Miller; sister, Mildred “Sister” Roberts; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved dearly.
