Joan L. Jones, affectionately known as “Grandma Joan, Granny, Nana, “Moma Joan”,“Mrs. Joan, Aunt Joan, or Joan” to all who loved and knew her. Joan was born on May 30,1952, in Cartersville, Georgia, to the late Pearline Edwards-Scott and Frank Scott Jr. She was the fourth born of eleven children to this union.

As a young child, Joan attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Cartersville, Georgia, it was there where she made her confession of faith and was baptized. During the summer months Joan spent time in Norfolk, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida with her Uncle Hilmas Edwards and his family, whom she talked about quite often. She met and married the love of her life Erwin Jones and they had three children, LeanDrwin, DeJuana and Ervin Jones.

Joan became a widow in June of 1998. To fill that void she began to spend most of her time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

In 2002 Joan joined the American Legion Auxiliary Post Unit 296 in Marietta, Georgia, where she served as Sergeant-at-Arms, Capacitive Memories Chair and the Fundraiser Committee. At the department level she served as Fundraiser Chair for Department President Rosa Scott and Membership Chair from 2015 to 2016. She also served on several chairs for the district level and was crowned Queen for her home Post Unit 296. She really enjoyed being at the post and participating and helping out with all events and conventions, especially her trip to Hawaii.

Joan also enjoyed bus trips to the casino, road trips with family and friends, hanging out, dancing, and listening to the blues. She always had a beautiful smile on her face, but if you were unlucky enough to rub her the wrong way, she did not hesitate to let you know it. For the most part she was beautiful inside and out, and loved her family dearly.

Joan loved to shop and dress to impress even if she was going no further than the grocery store. She also loved her Atlanta Falcons no matter how many games they lost, she would fuss every time they blew a game and be right back in front of the television when it was time for them to play again.

Preceded in death by her parents, Pearline Edwards Scott and Frank Scott, Jr.; brothers, Dee Harry Carson, Jr. and David Neal Carson; sisters, Frankie Cochran, Sheila Scott and Gloria Long.

Those who loved her most will forever cherish Joan’s memory.
