Mr. Lanorris Buffington, 62 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 1:00pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Taylor Street, Acworth, Georgia 30101. The body will lie in state in the church from 11:00am until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, 2950 Cobb Parkway N., Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
Lanorris was born on July 31, 1956 in Marietta, Georgia to the late John L. Buffington and Marie A. Furr Buffington. He received his education through the Cobb County School System. During his high school years, he was noted for his football talent as he told the story that coaches would often come to his home begging his father to allow him to play. However, Lanorris decided not to play football and focused on school. He graduated from North Cobb High School.
As a young man, he experienced a new birth when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. During his early years as a member, Lanorris served in various areas of the church. As the story parable for the prodigal son, Lanorris lost his way, but by faith we can believe that he returned to Christ. (Luke 15: 11-32)
He had a successful career at Coats and Clarks Inc. for over 20 years until it closed in 1989. He later worked for various companies in the city of Acworth. He continued to show his zest for life by telling jokes and always willing to provide friendly conversation to others; however, some of the conversations could get heated, especially during football season. Although Lanorris was a native of Georgia , he loved cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Lanorris leaves to cherish his memories, a brother, James Furr (Bessie) of Cartersville, GA.; nephews, Stephen Hughes ( Sarah) of Ballground, GA., Horace Shaw (Monica), Dexter Shaw (Kim); nieces, SonJia (Senita) Furr-Pritchett of Marietta,GA., Kimberly Mitchell and Jaretta Shaw all of Cartersville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
