On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Our Lord Jesus Christ saw his daughter Liza Mae Mitchell, very weary and decided to give her rest.
Liza Mae Mitchell was born on April 30, 1931, to the late Joe Johnson and Frances Harden Johnson. She was the first born of seventeen children.
She later married the companion of her young life the late Lenton C. Mitchell, Sr. Liza was a strong independent woman that loved her family, and she understood the Power of Prayer, Faith and God’s Love. She was a woman that took pride in all she did. She was a cook and there wasn’t anything that she couldn’t cook. Liza knew how to stretch food due to having such a large family; her children never missed a meal.
Liza loved her church family and she never held back telling others about her Pastor which was her son, Dr. Lenton Mitchell, Jr. and she was very proud of his Teaching about Christ. Liza lived a life that left a lot of experiences and memories to be cherished. She fought a good fight until her departure.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Frances Johnson; husband, Lenton C. Mitchell, Sr.; sons, Tommy and Brad Mitchell; sisters, Dorothy Chalk, Evelyn McGowan; brothers, Wilhenry and Willie Johnson.
Liza leaves to cherish her beautiful memories; seven children, Shirley Jones (Willie deceased), Regina Roberts (James deceased), Angela Kilgore (Jerry); Julie Clonts
(Jimmy), Lenton Mitchell, Jr. (Miriam), Anthony Mitchell (Rita), Michael Mitchell (Cynthia); twenty-one grand children; sixty-one great grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; brothers, James Johnson of Marietta, Georgia and Claude Johnson (Willie Mae) of Acworth, Georgia; sisters, Betty Morgan, Joyce Johnson, Sandra Gordon, Renita Johnson of Chattanooga , Tennessee, and Frances Barnes of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Liza also has a very special family in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a caregiver to this family for thirty years. She gained two more children that she helped raised; Jill and Tommy Reed. The Reed family, Patti and Doug Reed have been a blessing to her in so many ways.
