Mattie Lee Clemmons, 92 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Piedmont Healthcare of Cartersville surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Interment will be on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia 30114. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29,2024 from 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.
Mattie Lee Clemmons was born on August 24, 1932, to the late Bill Connor and Savannah McClendon. She was educated in the Bartow County School System and attended Summer Hill High School.
In early years as a child, she attended Macedonia Church with her mother and siblings. After she got a little older, she and her children joined St Luke A.M.E. church where she remained a member until her passing. Mattie was employed at EZ Mill until the company shutdown. After the shutdown she went to work at David Brothers restaurant.
After dating for 11yrs on January 1, 1971, Mattie and Ralph Clemmons Sr. joined in holy matrimony. They were together 59 years and was married 48 of those years. When Mattie was not working, she loved spending time with her family. She also loved watching her soap operas, westerns, game shows, and all biblical movies.
Mattie was proceeded in death by her husband, Ralph Clemmons Sr; her parents, Bill Connor and Savannah McClendon; her son, Byron Cook and daughter, Rachel Clemmons; Her brother, Willie Townsend (Connor); her sisters, Rose Bud Cook; Ida Mae Kiser; and Viola Epps; her stepson, Robert Benham; her grandson, Peter Jones; her daughter in love whom she cherished dearly and the love of eldest son life Toni Cook; 3 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memories sons Ernest Cook of Decatur, Ga; Niles (Paula) Clemmons of Cartersville, Ga; Ralph (Mary)Clemmons of Cartersville, Ga; Kentreal Charles (whom they raised as their son); her daughters Cathy (Mack) Chatmon of Cartersville, Ga; Linda (Charles)Durham Sr of Carterville, Ga; Connie Jones of Cartersville, Ga; Janice Clemmons of Powder Springs, Ga; Ruby Hermsen of Calhoun, Ga; Tammy (Maxwell) Feanny of Cartersville, Ga; Sylvia (Miles)Morris of Cartersville, Ga her grandchildren; Taiesha, Val (Wille), Stephanie, Niles Jr, Ashley, Cortez, Lacreshia, Jermack, Lincharia, Linda, Charles Jr, Lekeshia, Ladarius, Marsha (Ralph), Pam, Terry, Michael, Tererica, LeAnn, Anthony, Jsamine, Dena, Kurtis, Tierra, Tamira; 63 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
