Melida was born October 21, 1963 to Mary Lee and the late Mack Q. Carter in Cartersville, GA. She received her heavenly wings on April 21, 2020. As a child she had a glowing smile and was always willing to help others. Melida attended Cartersville High School and graduated in 1981. She went on to attend the University of Georgia, where she met some of her lifelong friends.

Melida accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Cartersville. She would later become one of the founding members of Greater New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA. Melida was a dedicated member of the congregation and served as the church secretary, faithfully delivering the church announcements every Sunday morning.

After college, Melida returned to Cartersville where she began her career at Shaw. Soon after, she married, and from that union, she gave birth to her only child Marlee Nicole “Chickee” Archer in 1988. Melida earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Kennesaw State University in 1993 and in 2017, she earned her Executive MBA from Kennesaw State University, graduating with honors.

Melida exuded dedication and consistency in pursuing one’s career. In the thirty-six years she worked at Shaw Industries, she excelled within the company, ascending from her first position in customer service to her final status as director of the marketing services. In March 2019, while being recognized for her many years of service at Shaw, it was said that if you want to get a quality manager, you pick them from the “Melida Tree.” Through her mentorship, positive attitude and strategic vision, Melida broke glass ceilings and impacted countless Shaw associates across the globe.

On September 3, 2016, Melida married the love of her life, Dr. Maurice LeVell Wilson. Together they visited many beautiful destinations around the world. Melida and Maurice touched many lives in the Bartow County community with a focus on education and service to others. Together they founded Coombs Kitchen, feeding more than 100 people every week, and the Fellowship Closet, providing free clothing and shoes to the general public.

Melida was known for her infectious smile and laugh, and her ability to gracefully light up any room with style and dignity. To be near Melida was to feel the brightness and love of the sun itself. Anytime you feel the sun warmly shining down on you, know that Melida’s sweet spirit is smiling and comforting you with her tender, one-of-a-kind embrace. She leaves to celebrate her life: her husband, Maurice Levell Wilson; daughter, Marlee Nicole Archer; mother, Mary Lee Carter; four siblings, Robert (Vickie), Sharon Ann, Roy and Mark. She cherished memories with her nieces, Renada, Cheroya, Kaitlyn, and Rorie; nephews, Mark, Jahcure, RJ, and Urijah; two loving god-daughters, Sarah and Lailah, and a host of loving family and friends.
