Mildred Carter Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Banks Carter,  " aka" Lil Mama" 83 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11:00A.M. at Providence Cemetery, 165 Old Tennessee Road NE, Cartersville, Georgia 30121.

Mildred Carter was born February 9,1940 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Robert Lee and Lillie Mae Banks. She transitioned to her eternal heavenly home on September 22, 2023.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee and Lillie Mae Banks, three sisters Pearlie Mae Ward, Della Banks and Vivian Ann Wilkins, and five brothers Thomas Banks, Robert Banks Jr., Ralph Banks, Charles E Banks and Freddie Lee Banks.

Mildred learned to play the piano by ear at such a young age she needed help getting on the piano bench and she played until she couldn’t anymore. Music ministry was her passion and she played for several local churches throughout the week and sometimes twice on Sundays. In 2001 she was called to minister the word of God and was ordained to preach the gospel.  Even while Mildred battled her illness of dementia, she still had an ear for Spirit filled gospel music and she was still ministering to her kids through songs.  Songs that she was so excited to share with us, as if we had never heard them before. These are the songs we’re sharing with you on this day.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  children, Debbie (Dennis) Cox, Elise Carter, Rodney Carter, Ivan Carter and Yolanda Oliver;  grandchildren, Jawana Johnson, Desmond Johnson, Kendra Rice, Rahsean (Jessie) Carter, Japeth Carter, Justin Carter, Kiana (Darion) Floyd, Ivan Carter, Xavier Holley, Mario Carter, Kyrah Holley and Zaria Carter; great-grandchildren ,Maya Johnson, Labria Johnson, Ariana Johnson, Jaida Carter, J’amir Carter, Kameron Mitchell, Kylan Mitchell and Peyton Carter; Sisters in-law, Mae Anthony (Dennis) Perkins and Mary Carter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
