Ms. Mildred Jacqueline Hannon, 86 of Kennesaw, Georgia and formerly of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 1:00P.M. at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Acworth, Georgia 30101. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.

Mildred J.Hanon was born on December 7, 1937 to Marcus McNeal and Cora Lee Hannon. Affectionately called Jackie , she was the youngest of the four daughters born to the couple. She grew up on the south side of Chicago and was educated at McCosh Elementary School and Englewood High School. Jackie was reared in a Christian household and developed a love of God at an early age. Her family attended Pilgrim Baptist Church throughout her childhood.
From an early age Jackie developed a love of children. This love led her to attend Chicago Teachers College and gain her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Jackie spent her career as a teacher pouring into the lives of young people who attended William H. Carter Elementary School. She was proud to say she spent "30 and one half years " educating students. Leading by example Jackie advance her education and earned her Master's Degree in Education.
In addition to children Jackie clearly had an undying love of family. She was devoted to her older sisters, and she grew up very close with her cousins, the children of her maternal Aunt Ida and Uncle William Baker. As an adult she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews taking them on shopping sprees and to the movies such as the Sound of Music. She was very active in the lives of her nieces and nephews helping them celebrate every milestone and walking with them every step of the way. This love of family helped her to easily transition into the role of parent as she gave birth to one daughter , Jennifer. She was devoted to her daughter.
Jackie was a friendly, welcoming soul. Although reserved by nature, Jackie was warm and inviting. She as known to host many holiday dinners as well as informal Sunday dinners.Her house was the"go-to" spot for many as she always sought to make others feel welcomed and loved. A trip to Chicago was not complete until family members stopped by her home to chat and catch up.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus McNeal and Cora Hannon; her three older sisters, Rosa Wash, Arthurine Carter and Valerie VanHannon; and two nephews, William Mitchell and Steven Wash. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Jennifer (Emmanuel) Glaze; two granddaughters, Nia an Nadiya Glaze; nieces, Donna Smith, Kim (Adrian) Crossley and Dawn Morris; and nephews, Eldridge (Karen) Carter and Cedric (Paula) Wash; six great nieces, five great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to count.
