Betty Elizabeth McAfee, age 94, was born in Bartow County, Georgia, to the late Elder Charlie and Nellie Bell Carson. She was educated in the Bartow County School System. Although her formal schooling was limited, Betty possessed natural intelligence, quick wit, and an unshakable spirit that carried her throughout her life. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, strength, and love.
Betty loved the Lord deeply and accepted Christ at a young age. Her faith guided her steps, shaped her character, and remained the foundation of her long, blessed life.
She was first married to the late Mr. Henry Ford Henderson, with whom she shared six children: Roy Lee Henderson (Bonita) of Cartersville, GA; Timothy Henderson (Christine) of Cartersville, GA; Matthew Henderson (Bernadette) of Cartersville, GA; Betty Clark (Louis) of Elgin, IL; Mary Henderson of Cartersville, GA and Sheila Henderson of Cartersville, GA. She later married the love of her life, the late Robert McAfee, Sr. and together they raised three more children: Patricia Collins (Carlos) of Cartersville, GA, Belinda Owens (Terry) of Chattanooga, TN and Robert McAfee, Jr. (Tonia) of Calhoun, GA. Betty and Robert were married for over 50 years, building a home centered on faith, laughter, and unconditional love.
Known for her classy and sophisticated style, Betty found joy in thrift stores and yard sales—especially her beloved “church store.” She loved to dress beautifully, always adorned with jewelry and her signature creative headgear. Her elegance, confidence, and unmistakable presence made her truly unforgettable.
Above all, Betty treasured her family. She is preceded in death by her sons Matthew and Timothy Henderson, four brothers and one sister. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Ollie Nell Moore of Dallas, GA (Jimmy); her brothers, Robert Lee Carson of Cartersville (Anne) and Oscar Carson of Dalton, GA; the Arnold family of Atlanta, GA; twenty-two grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends—Betty Phene Henderson, Mary Frances Cooley, Joyce Tolbert—along with many others who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
