On Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 2:28PM, at the age of 71, God ushered His faithful servant Peggy Lee Slocum home. Peggy Lee Slocum was born on June 12, 1950 to the late Mary Loraine and Walter Lee Johnson in Marietta, Georgia. She was educated in the Cobb County School System attending Lemon Street until segregation began; and she attended North Cobb High School.

Peggy was the one that took care of everyone, when her mother became ill; she took time out of her busy life and cared for her mother until her death. Later in life Peggy met the love of her life James Earl Slocum and to this union three children were born. Their love for each other lasted 58 years.

Peggy was employed for many years as a health care worker at Springdale Nursing Home until she medically retired. She had a joyful spirit, and had an abundance of love for everyone and everything. Her family was the most important part of her life and she spent every moment lending a helping hand. There was never a time Peggy would turn anyone away because caring for others was all she knew to do. Besides being a caretaker Peggy’s favorite things to do was cooking and putting puzzles together.

Peggy later joined Mt. Zion of Grassdale Missionary Baptist Church taking on the role of being an Usher; working beside her late sister-in-law Martha Goodson Slocum. The church can truly say that Peggy Slocum loved her church family.

Peggy leaves to cherish her loving memories; children, James Earl (Ida) Slocum, Jr., Gena Slocum, and Ricky (Carey) Slocum; grandchildren, Jonathan Slocum, Amber Slocum, Brittney Slocum, Leigha Slocum, Kyra Slocum, Robbie McAfee, Shamarie McAfee and Shaqeal McAfee; great-grandchildren, Allie Slocum, Aspen Singleton, Aubrey Slocum, Harper Arnold, Jaeden McAfee, Zylen McAfee, Adalynn McAfee, Trae McAfee, Mia McAfee, Max McAfee, Quincy McAfee, Grayson McAfee, and Ariel McAfee; sisters, Rosalyn (Marlow) Bailey, Marilyn (E.L.) Callahan, Carolyn (Lamar) Johnson, Victoria (Claude) Kellogg and Candis Johnson; brother, Robert “Bobby” (Maryann) Johnson; goddaughter, Shatosha Byrd; godson, Adam (Heather) Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her very special cat “June”.
