Ray Charles Echols-Kemp was born on August 30, 1955 in Acworth, Georgia to the late Betty Echols and Ralph Kemp. Early in the morning on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 the Lord called Ray to his heavenly home to rest.
Ray was educated in the City of Acworth School System. He attended Roberts Elementary School and graduated from North Cobb High School in 1973. Ray was a faithful and active member of Bethel AME church since childhood and would later become a Trustee. Although Ray had no biological children of his own, he loved and treated all the neighborhood children like his own. He loved taking them to ball games and to stores allowing them to get whatever they wanted. His Step-granddaughter Zari and he would ride around the neighborhood in his truck where she learned to blow the horn. She would say..”He’s my Buddy”. He worked at several places until finding his ideal job at Kennesaw State University; he was employed there for 25 years as a custodian until his retirement in 2014. Ray was a people person, loved good conversation, and he never met a stranger. He was an avid fan of the Falcons, Braves, and all Atlanta sports teams. He also enjoyed buying lottery tickets hoping to one day “Hit It Big”! Ray loved to eat and no food was ever bad to him.

His Mother, Father, Stepfather, five brothers; Nathaniel Cole, James Echols, Wilbert Kemp, Ernest Cole, and Troy Cole and a Stepson Jonathan Rowe preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Dorene; four brothers; Percy (Mary), Darrell, Keith and Al (Vanessa), two Stepsons; Ricardo Bernard and David Satchell, 2 Step-grandsons; Giovonni Horne and Brixton Rowe, and a Step- granddaughter Zari Satchell. Dear Aunts; Annie Jean, Mary and Louise; Dear cousins; Jenell (who was loved as an adored sister), Cora, and Elnora; Best buddies; James (his friend since childhood and cherished cousin), Robert Ross, Bro. Rudolph, Reverend Houston, Mr. Claude, Bro. Larry Griffin, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. All of whom he loved dearly.
