Mr. Robert Benham, 74, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
A Private Family Gathering for Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Interment will follow on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 9:30 A.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service "Balloon Release to Heaven" will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 1:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. at Hamilton Crossing Park, 155 Hamilton Crossing Rd NW, Cartersville, GA 30120.
Robert Benham was born on August 31, 1946 to the late Ruth Benham and Wheeler T. Linley. His foster parents were, the late Sallie Ann and John Robert Wilson.He was married to Roberta Benham of Rockmart, Georgia.
Robert was educated in the Bartow County School System and graduated from Summer Hill School with the Class of 1964. In his younger years he received a high academic achievement award, which resulted in a scholarship to attend Morris Brown College. After high school, Robert served his country in the US Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1965.
He enjoyed various sports, attending the Kentucky Derby and playing cards and other games of chance. Robert was very charming, charismatic, handsome and affection known as the “Outlaw”. During his lifetime, Robert worked for several companies including Northfolk Southern Railroad, Ford Motor Company, Shaw Industries, Goodwill Industries, EBY Brown, Office Distributors, HOHNS, and Tallatoona Inc. Services.
He was preceded in death, by his parents and foster parents, two siblings, Will Venable and Ruth Ann Freeman; one daughter, Lovonda J. Prater.
Left to cherish his memory, his children, Ryan (Patrisha) Davis, Janelle Davenport, Stephaine (Alex) Williams, Cedric Benham, Courtney Benham, Robin Benham, Chase Benham, Rudy Benham and step-daughter Candace Moore; siblings, George (Sarah) Benham, Cafaris “Dick” Benham, Hedy B. Smith, Cathy Freeman, Leon (Norma) Venable, Curtis Shaw and Tim Linley; twenty- two grand children and eight great grand children; special niece, Nicole Smith; special nephews, Joshua Willis, Tyrone Willis and James Robinson; a host of other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would also like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their time and care of our beloved loved one. And a very special thanks to Justin Sellars, Gail Banks and a very, very, special thanks to Hedy Smith for the time, love and care she gave.
