Robert Lee Cooley, Jr. 73, formerly of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Emory Healthcare Decatur Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at The Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1 Mt. Olive Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery, 165 Old Tennessee Road NE, Cartersville, Georgia 30121. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home , 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.
Robert Lee Cooley, Jr., better known to his friends as “Wolf”, was born on August 17, 1952, in Cartersville GA to the late Mary Frances Benham and Robert Lee Cooley, Sr. He was one of seven children. Robert grew up in Cartersville, GA. He received Christ in his life at an early age while attending Faith Temple COGIC.
Robert attended Summer Hill High School. Due to the integration process, in 1968 Summer Hill School was closed forever and he along with his cohorts had to attend Cartersville High School and Cass High School. Robert graduated from Cartersville High School in 1971. However, the Class of 1971 from both Cartersville and Cass High Schools continue to meet and fellowship together, “Summer Hill Blue Devils Forever ’71.” Now, the 4th grade gang is another story. Robert was also a part of with the “4th grade gang” of Summer Hill School.
While living in Cartersville, Robert worked at Union Carbide. He later moved to Gwinnett County where he worked and retired from The Wrigley Company in 2018.
Robert was formerly married to Felicia Cooley and they adopted one child, Maya Loraine Cooley. Robert loved music, laughter, Lemon Heads, pork rinds, and his Black Nissan 270Z. He also loved the Word of God and gospel music.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Frances and Robert Lee Cooley, Sr.; sister, Regina (Lopy) Gamble; brothers, Sammy and Jimmy Cooley.
Left to cherish his memory: son, Raphael Cooley, daughter. Maya Cooley; granddaughter, Meilani; siblings, Rose Mary Shuman-Witt of East Point, GA, Calvin Cooley (Glenda) of Cartersville, GA, Jo Ellen Paige (Johnny) of Decatur, GA; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
