Mr. Robert Charles Houston, Sr., 86, was swiftly called into the arms of his Lord on the morning of August 23, 2025. The Lord, in His wisdom, saw fit to welcome home such a caring and grateful soul, and reached down to claim the spirit of our beloved Robert Charles—affectionately known as “Crip” to those who loved him most.
Born on July 19, 1939, in Acworth, Georgia, to the late Clyde and Nellie Houston, Robert Charles lived a life deeply rooted in family and friends. His journey carried him from Acworth to Miami, Florida, then to Cordele, Georgia, before ultimately returning to the place he cherished most—his hometown of Acworth.
He received his education at Lemon Street School in Marietta, Georgia.
A man of great diligence, Robert Charles was employed for many years at Qualco Casting in Acworth and later retired from Crisp County in Cordele. He was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for the generosity and care that touched all who crossed his path.
Beyond his work, Robert Charles found joy in life’s simple pleasures: time spent with family, phone conversations with loved ones, and his enduring passion for fishing, which he pursued faithfully until his health declined. A devoted baseball enthusiast, he especially loved the Atlanta Braves. His love for the game began as a young adult; when he played for the Acworth Eagles, a team managed by his Uncle Clyde and filled with friends and family.
During his years in Miami, Robert Charles was an active member of his church, where his faith and service left a lasting impression on those he worshiped alongside.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene Houston; his children, Charles Houston and Jacquelyn Houston; his parents, Clyde and Nellie Houston; and his siblings, Richard Houston, Sr., Willie Clyde Houston, Bruce Houston, and Joyce Randolph.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving daughters, Kimberly Alisha Houston (Ricky), Sondra Houston Henderson (Karl), and Amerest Brown; his son, Robert Charles Houston, Jr.; his devoted sister, Roslyn Griffin, and brother, Lawrence Houston (Janice); his special cousin and dear friend, Randolph Blalock (China); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.
Crip will forever be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the love he so freely gave to others.
