Mr. Robert Larry Pullum, 76 of Adairsville, Georgia passed away quietly on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00AM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church , 1 Mount Olive Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 10:00AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.
In `1945 the price of gas was $0.21, the price of a gallon of milk was $0.67 and the price of a loaf of bread was $0.10. That Winter on December 1st, a baby boy was born to Grady Pullum, Sr. and Sallie Butler-Pullum on the Bartow/Gordon County line. He was the 5th child born to this family and they named him Robert Larry Pullum, there he grew up on a farm where his father was a sharecropper.
He was educated at Stephens School in Gordon County and Summer Hill School in Bartow County. As a child he started his spiritual journey at Gray's Chapel AME Church in Adairsville, Georgia , where his mother's family "The Butlers" attended church. He also often visited the "Pullum Family" church known as Pine Grove Baptist in Redbud, Georgia. Later he jined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Cartersville, Georgia , where he became a member of the Deacon Board and joined the choir. He served faithfully in both ministries.
He loved softball and was known by many in the Adairsville Community as "Coach Pullum", having coached teams such as the Adairsville Wildcats.
Robert was a hardworking man. He worked for several companies and businesses before his retirement, Including Harbison-Walker where he coached the company softball team. After retirement , ha also delivered newspapers for the Cartersville Daily Tribune.
Early Tuesday morning December 28th, "Uncle Robert" joined the great cloud of witnesses at age 76.
Preceded in death by the love of his life, his devoted wife of 26 years, Marion Hendrix-Pullum; father , Grady Pullum, Sr.; mother, Sallie Butler-Pullum; sisters, Ada Lee Pullum-Wilkey, Daphne Marie Pullum-Carter, Clarice Mae Pullum-Dixon; brothers, Grady Pullum, Jr., Thomas Howard Pullum , Sr., James Anthony Pullum, Nathaniel Pullum, and George Young; maternal grandparents, Arthur Butler and Sallie Harris Butler, and paternal grandparents, Ed Pullum and Pearlie Curtis-Pullum.
He will always be cherished and remembered by his step-daughter, Priscilla Harper, whom he raised; sister-in-laws, Hattie Facin_Pullum, Threada Wilkey-Pullum, Priscilla Hendrix-Davis, and Darlene Hendrix-Smith; though he had no biological children of his own, his nieces and nephews became his adoptive children. They too are left to cherish his memory as well as their children and grandchildren, along with a host of cousins and friends.
