Ronnie Jennings Obituary

Mr. Ronnie Sherwood Jennings, 75, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Piedmont HealthCare of Cartersville. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement. Funeral service for Mr. Jennings will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in-state in the church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will be on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia 30114. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.

Ronnie Sherwood Jennings was born in Richmond ,Virginia on September 7, 1948 to the late James Otis Jennings and Dorothy Hopson Jennings. He and his family moved to Newark, New Jersey in the 1950s. Ronnie Graduated high school in Orange, New Jersey in 1966. He enlisted in the United States  Air Force in 1966 where he served with the Military Air Police. Ronnie served a tour in the Philippines and Vietnam and received an Honorable discharge in 1970. Ronnie married Patricia Ann Walker in 1972 and they are the proud parents of Sonyalynn Jennings McDonald and Christopher Todd Jennings. Ronnie received an Associates Degree in Business from Essex County College. Ronnie began employment at Allstate Insurance Company in the 1970’s and retired with 35 years of service. Ronnie was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey in his early years and was also married there. He later joined Bethel Baptist Church in Orange, New Jersey and played the guitar and sang in the choir. Ronnie and Patricia later moved to Coram,  New York and attended Faith Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 16 years and part of the Prison Ministry. Ronnie and Patricia retired to Georgia in 2006 where they joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he continued his love of bass playing and sometimes drums as needed. He also attended ACC# 65. He was a servant leader of the “Welcome Committee”. He was also the 8am service worship leader. He played bass guitar with gospel recording artist groups, Southern Harmonizers, Donald Hatcher and Holy Family, Karen Peparille and The Psalmist. He also played bass and sang for the group called The Neighbors ,amongst numerous other groups.

He leaves to cherish his memory his childhood sweetheart wife,Rev.Patricia Ann Jennings ; children, Sonyalynn Jennings and Christopher Jennings (Rachel); grandchildren, Saniya Faith

McDonald, Christopher James Jennings, Christian Jacob Jennings, Madison Elle Jennings and Syrius ; bonus grandchildren,  Jiyah Tomlin, Shiane Williams and Rayna Williams; father like

figures to Lamont Poaches, Hakiem Poaches, Lisa Douglas and The WEBS; Goddaughter, Dominique Williams ; brother, Stephen Otis Jennings ; Parents-In-Love, Lenward & Elizabeth

Jenkins;  Sisters-In-Love, Evelyn (James) Bacon, Janice Baker and  Linda West ; Brother-in- Love, Andrew Walker (Connie); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
