Mrs. Sallie Carson Jones was born on August 15, 1941, in Cartersville, Georgia, to late Mrs. Ollie Mae Dodson Carson and Mr. Booker T. Carson.  She grew up on Courrant Street as the eldest of her three siblings.  Courrant Street was a very close-knit community with fond memories spent with the Dean family, Kay and Richards family, Wade family, Sloan family, and many others.

Sallie grew up in a Christian home where her father was a deacon in the church and her mother served as a church musician.  She joined and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Stilesboro, Georgia, at a young age.  She, along with her family, later moved their membership to Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served and attended until her death.  While attending Mount Zion, Sallie enjoyed singing in the choir, attended bible study, and serving on many committees during church anniversaries and revivals.

Sallie was educated in the public school system in Cartersville, Georgia, where she graduated from Summer Hill High School in 1959. She and her classmates had a special bond, and they often enjoyed spending time together at each other’s homes, picnics, and going on cruises.  After graduating from Summer Hill High, she continued her studies at Brown Beauty School in Atlanta, Georgia, and became a licensed barber and beautician.  She even had her own little “beauty/barber shop” where customers came for styling and beautifying.

Shortly after, Sallie married and was blessed with her adorable son Ray, who brought JOY to all!  In 1968, Sallie married the love of her life, Hubert Jones, Jr.  They were happily married for almost 30 years. They enjoyed each other’s presence so much that they even worked together at Goodyear Tire Company.  They rode to work together, worked the same midnight shift, and rode home together…now that’s LOVE!  Sallie was a faithful employee at Goodyear and retired after 30 years of dedicated service.

After retiring from Goodyear, she enjoyed being a private sitter to patients in the Cartersville community and at local assisted-living centers. She also had a special love for food and cooking. She could put together a delicious “spread” in no time!  She was known for her special dishes such as her fried chicken, sweet-potato souffle, potato salad, sweet tea and so much more. She also enjoyed being a member of the “Breakfast Club”.

Although Sallie did not have grandchildren of her own, she thoroughly enjoyed being “Great Aunt” to her great nieces and nephews: Chandler, Lailah, Karrington, and Chase Pollard. You could often find her attending their many activities like baseball and basketball games, ballet recitals, musicals and plays, track meets, cheer competitions, baptisms and graduations. She brought so much joy to their lives!  She really had a special love for babies and often babysat children when they were small.  Some of those special memories were of Amber Knight Bailey, Adam Ward-Gober; Kevin, Devin, and Tiffany Johnson.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Sallie peacefully departed this life and entered her eternal home.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Jones, Jr.; her son, Raymond Terry, Jr.; her half-brother, Booker T. Butler; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Booker T. Carson; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Martha Carson; brothers-in-law, Mr. Lawrence Jones, Mr. Lewis Jones, Mr. Rudolph Jones, and Mr. Larry Jones.

She leaves fond memories to be cherished by many including her sister, Mrs. Marcella C. Jones; brother, Mr. Wayne T. Carson; a step-son, Gregory Solomon; brother-in-law, Mr. Donald (Faye)Jones; sister-in-law, Mrs. Sharon Jones;  aunt, Ms. Ann E.
