Sarah Jo Cox, 79, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away November 16, 2021, at PiedmontCartersville Medical Center. Born June 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Catherine Lott and the late John Marshall. Sarah was also preceded in death by her younger sister Connie Scott. Sarah Jo was a live-long resident of Cartersville and member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Summer Hill High School, and afterward, she married and started her family. While raising her family, Sarah worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. After thirty-three years with the company, Sarah retired in 1998. Sarah—being Sarah—could not remain retired. She then, after retirement from Goodyear, worked at Starcrest Nursing Home as a cook. After her time at Starcrest, Sarah worked for the Tallatoona Head Start Program as a cook, as well. She worked until her health began to decline.

Sarah’s greatest joy came from spending time with family and talking on the phone with friends. She was an avid football fan; however, she hadn’t liked the Atlanta Falcons since they released Michael Vick. After that, she became a New Orleans Saints fan. Sarah loved to travel. Every September for ten years, she and friends cruised around the Caribbean, Mexico, and various places throughout South America. Regardless of the destination, Sarah always returned with souvenirs and gifts for her loved ones. Sarah was known for her sense of humor, her “no nonsense” attitude, and her direct approach to life. If you didn’t want the truth about a matter, you wouldn’t ask her about it; yet everyone went to Sarah for advice. She was the nucleus of the family, and she is truly missed by everyone.

Sarah is survived by two sons: Willie Cox and Dennis Cox (Debbie); two daughters: Geraldine Perry and Jacqueline Cox, all of Cartersville, Georgia; grandchildren: Christopher Cox (Jannetta); Nykya Cox; Zachary Taylor; Willie Cox, Jr; JP Perry; Desi Johnson (Mary); Jawana Johnson; and Shari Arnold; three sisters: Geraldine Dodd (James); Myrtice Braziel (Daniel); and Kathleen Jewel; special cousin: Rachel Arnold; and one brother: Emory Hill, Jr; great-grandchildren: Maya Johnson; Bria and Arianna Johnson; Kyran Locklear; and Noelle Cox. Sarah also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones, and she will be missed by many
