In God's plan are many things we cannot understand but we must trust God's judgement and be guided by His hand. Silently and beautifully on Sunday, October 4, 2020 Selena Bell Brown McClendon was called to her heavenly home. She was born October 26, 1937 to the late Mack and Virginia Brown in Cartersville, Georgia.
She joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life she moved her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church with her loving husband, Reverend Willie Paul McClendon, Sr., who was her high school sweetheart. To this union three sons were born, Willie Paul McClendon, Jr., Tirus McClendon and Wesley Eugene McClendon.
She was a jack of all trades. During her fulfilling life she worked in retail and manufacturing, but was mostly known as an educator in the local school system. During Selena's marriage she became the First Lady of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Georgia. Later on , God lead Reverend McClendon and her to form Second Corinthians Baptist Church. Selena's love of music led Paul, Momma Jo and her to form a gospel singing group that sung songs written by Selena, such as "Extra, Extra Read All About It."
Selena was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Virginia Brown; husband, Reverend Willie Paul McClendon, Sr. ; two brothers, Mack, Jr. and Hugh Brown; and grandson, Jeremiah McClendon.
She leaves to cherish an abundance of sweet memories, sons, Willie, Jr. (Mary), Tirus (Patti), and Wesley McClendon; one brother, Jimmy Brown; two granddaughters, Sasha and Cassie McClendon; grandson, Leon (Pee-Wee) McClendon; eight great grandchildren, Jayla, DJ, Zion, Destinee, Destinee, Zamari, Nakya, Dominic adn Leilani; four brothers-in-law, Jesse McClendon, Frederick McClendon (Marty), Michael McClendon (Vanessa) and Danny Ray McClendon; three sisters-in-law, Geneva Cooper (Rufus), Bonnette McClendon and Rochelle Ellis (Jeffrey); two special friends, Shirley Henderson and Ruth Ann West; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
