A Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1 Mount Olive Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120.
On Friday, October 20, 2023, Resa peacefully answered the Master’s call at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center. She took His hand and was led home to rest.
Teresa Ann Holcombe Porter, affectionately known as “Resa” to everyone was born on June 15, 1962, in Anniston, Alabama to the late Monroe and Ruby Holcombe. She was the sixth of eight children born to this union. Resa accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Cleveland Jones.
She was educated in the Gordon County School System. Teresa attended Calhoun High School and graduated with the Class of 1980. After graduating she relocated to Cartersville, Georgia. In 1984 Teresa married Alan Porter and to this union one child was born but together they raised two children.
Teresa’s career path in Cartersville included a position within the Bartow County School System, Anheuser-Busch, and concluded with a position at ZEP Chemicals, Inc. Resa loved spending time with her family, but her best of times were spent with her “Road Dog”, her cousin, the late Carol Livsey; the two of them are together once again.
Teresa’s favorite pastime was being with her grandchildren, watching them playing sports and having band concerts. Nothing made her happier than shopping for her grandchildren. She was certainly one “PROUD GRANDMA”.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and siblings, Larry Holcombe and Shirley A. Taylor.
Resa’s memories will be forever cherished in the hearts of her daughter, Taresha LaShonda Holcombe; son, Marcus (Shyonda) Porter; grandchildren, Jakyon, Talia, Jakeveon, Takira, Zanaria, Damani, Alise and Isaiah, all of Cartersville, Georgia, and Heaven and Alex of Detroit, Michigan; siblings, Harold Holcombe, Faye (William) Timber, Carolyn Gaddis, Gregory (Yaschika) Holcombe, all of Anniston, Alabama, and Alerica Holcombe of Corpus Christi, Texas; special friends, Lisa Jackson and Ms. Ann; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
