Mr. Thurston Columbus Durrah, 92 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Piedmont Healthcare of Cartersville surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00A.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 10:00A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 7:00P.M. - 8:00P.M. at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home, 210 North Bartow Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.This service will be LIVE-STREAMED.

Thurston Columbus Durrah was born on April 22, 1931 in Kingston, Georgia to the late Mary Louise Wells Riley and James Columbus Durrah. At an early age Thurston joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Kingston, Georgia. Later in life he moved his membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cartersville, Georgia. He met and married the love of his life Daisy Pearl Cochran and to this union five children were born. Thurston was truly a Godly man. He loved the Lord and all he knew about Him from reading the Word; his Holy Bible.

“Pop “ as everyone knew him was a very special person to his family and friends.  His favorite pastime was spending time with his friends and family, and watching Westerns in his favorite recliner.

He was employed with Lockheed Martin where he retired after thirty plus years of service. Thurston was awarded a Silver Veteran’s Badge as an Honor conferred by the Grand Lodge of The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in 2003.

Thurston is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of sixty-four (64) years, Daisy Pearl Durrah; son, James R. Durrah; granddaughter, April Durrah; great grandchildren, Amaya-Kayla and Asher Durrah.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories; children, Ronald “Dodie” C. (Barnedia) Durrah. Jo Ellen (Bernard) Miller. Terri Durrah and LeTrina M. Durrah; grandchildren, Gregory D. Miller, Randal N. Durrah, Alicia D. Durrah, Tomeka P. Witchard (Jermaine), Lequitta M. Watters, Stephanie L. Durrah, Whitney T. Durrah, Lakesha D. Marin (Jackquie). Kevin D. Miller (Marquita), James C. Durrah II, Kenneth L. Durrah (Danielle), Angelica Durrah, Joseph T. Durrah. Perssia G. Durrah, Destiny L. Durrah, Lewis V. Durrah, James Summerour, and Julia M. Durrah; great-grandchildren, Aadien D. Kirkland. Alexandria M. Fife (Darren), Caleb X. Reynolds, Cayden I. Durrah, Demarcuse Miller, Jahshua H. B. Miller, Janiah L. Durrah, Jericho Z. I. Miller, Jeru S.N. Miller, Maliyah D. Dillard, Miranda R. Durrah, Mykah S. Hurley, N. Mitchell L. Watters, Rochelle T. Owens, Serenity N. Thompson, Shatarica Seals (Jaylynn) , Soloman B. Watters, Wesley S. Watters, Xavier C. Mahlabe and Zoe S.Y. Miller; great-great-grandchildren, Amirah T. Seals, Grayson A. Fife, Joshua Robinson Jr., Ryleigh G. Fife, and Zaniyah A. Witchard; and a host of other relatives and friends.
