Virginia Patton Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Moore Patton, 79 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00AM at St. Luke AME Church, 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. The body will lie in state in the church from 10:00AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, 319 N. Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this time of bereavement.

Due to COVID-19 regulations and guidelines, physical distancing practices will be in place, and MASK ARE REQUIRED for those that will be attending the service. The family is the main concern during this time of bereavement and space will be limited. We have to ensure the family is able to attend the service, so there is a possibility of some friends not being admitted. However, the service will  be LIVE-STREAMED.


Mrs. Virginia H Moore Patton was born October 16, 1942 in Rome, Georgia to Howard Moore and Margaret Moore. Momma, Virginia H Moore Patton got her real wings on Saturday evening of December 4, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Moore, Sr., her mother, Margaret Moore, her grandparents, Levi and Leathia Sims, her youngest son, Kyle G Patton and her sister, Linda E Moore Jones.

Virginia attended and graduated from Main High School in Rome, Georgia in 1960. On July 16, 1965, she married James William Patton, Jr. After getting married, Virginia moved from Rome, Georgia to Cartersville, Georgia. In 1965, she began working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co where she started out working in the mill before moving into the Payroll Department until she retired in 1999. Her favorite pastime was shopping, traveling and working in the church where she chaired a Homecoming Anniversary and a Women’s Day Program. Virginia also enjoyed working with the Kitchen Ministry as well as being a member of the Couples Ministry.


Virginia leaves her legacy behind to her husband, James W. Patton, Jr.; her son, Kenneth B Patton of Powder Springs, GA, her brother, Howard Moore, Jr of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Sara P (Sherman) Broadnax of Cartersville, GA; sister-in-law Rosemary Nolan of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law Richard T. Patton of Cartersville, GA; brother-in-law of Westley C. (Jackie) Patton of Powder Springs, GA; special cousins Rosetta Strickland of Cartersville, GA and Robetta (Alfred) McKenzie of Augusta, GA and her very
close sister-friends Vyola (Charles) Foster of Cartersville, GA, Lillie (James) Dyar of Rockmart, GA and Rosemary (Marvin) Creamer of Cartersville, GA as well as a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.
